I would like to congratulate the SRC on their organisation and also congratulate the large number of students who attended. The theme for the night was ‘horror’ but the night was anything but. The students had a great time and the dress ups were fantastic. Well done Nick Nick Short Year 12, 2013 has achieved a $29,000 scholarship in Bachelor of Arts and Technology Secondary Education at University of New England Armidale. This is a tremendous and just reward for Nick whose attendance and work ethic was exemplary. Well Done Nick. Relay for Life I would like to wish all of our students all the best when they participate in Relay for Life this weekend. The team organisers are: Team 1 – Emily Van Dalsen, Team 2 – Madi Bultitude and Team 3 - Chloe Burgess. See next week’s newsletter for the results. Lions Youth of the Year South Grafton High School had two students compete in the Lions Youth of the Year Zone Final last Saturday night. They were Chloe Burgess and Ruby Sherrin. The girls didn’t win but were a great credit to themselves, their families and the school. Well done girls for progressing so far in this competition. Kerrod Bala Thank you to Amelia Noakes and Sarah Williams for organising and conducting the fundraising for Kerrod Bala’s family. Kerrod passed away when the family’s home was burnt to the ground leaving the family with nothing. With the guidance of Amelia and Sarah, South Grafton High raised $2000 for Kerrod’s family in this difficult time. Well done everyone. Kerrod’s family have passed on their heart felt appreciation of our efforts. Art An information evening will be held on Tuesday 18 March 2014 in the school library from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Girls Open Netball On Thursday 13 March 2014, the open
girls WON the Zone Knockout Netball Challenge here in Grafton. The girls played three intense games in extremely
hot conditions. The girls won
the first game against Bellingen 42-
7. The second game was
against Coffs Senior College and the girls won 52 - 17. The final was
against Orara High School. This game went into extra time because of a draw at
the end of the game. The girls finally took out the victory of this game with a score of 38-36. The team consisted of Kirby
Danvers, Courtney King, Brooke Lilley, Kira Grant, Murren Woods, Karlie
Chevalley, Paris Ditton, and Isabella Di-Mattia. All girls played exceptionally well on the day. Congratulations to our
Mid North Coast champions!!!
Rowing Last week our rowing team made the trip
to Sydney to compete in the NSW CHS Rowing Championships at the International Regatta Centre Penrith. With
a few late withdrawals the team was reduced in numbers; however, this did not
dampen their spirits. This was the first time for some of our students competing on the course in which the 2000 Sydney
Olympics were held. This proved to be an experience which the rowers will never
forget. All rowers performed well and represented our school with great honour. Braden Cooper rowed extremely well in

his single scull, finishing with a personal
best. Laura McCann and Natasha Tweedie performed admirably in the double scull
and it was hard to wipe the smiles off their faces at the end of the race. Kiara
Hankinson rowed well in her single scull race, as did Chloe Burgess and Ruby Sherrin in their open double scull and
should be proud of their efforts. The standout performers for the two day
regatta were the open girls crew of Chloe Burgess, Ruby Sherrin, Kiara Hankinson & Brielle Lentfer, coxed by Braden Cooper.
The girls placed second in the Championship Women’s quad scull behind Maclean High. In the Championship
Women’s Coxed Four, the girls overcame Sydney Girls High School to win gold, this
was an outstanding achievement by the girls, well done. A big thankyou to Grafton High who travelled down with our rowers
and made the trip very enjoyable. It was terrific to see both schools working
together and supporting each other. A special mention to Mr & Mrs Tarrant
(GHS), Mr Lang and Matt Cooper for all their efforts in organising and transporting students and boats, without the help of all
these people the trip to CHS would not have been possible.
This is a fantastic day and places will fill quickly. reigstration forms can be obtained from the Cultural
center or the Ms Wauchope in the libarary
