Chinese coast guard and naval ships have been involved in frequent confrontations with vessels from the U.S., Vietnam and the Philippines in the past few years, as Beijing has taken a more assertive stance on territorial disputes in the region, analysts and diplomats said. The current joint effort has yet to bear fruit, even as pressure mounts on Malaysian authorities—who are leading the search—to uncover the fate of the Boeing BA 777-200 jet that was carrying 239 people when it vanished off radar screens early Saturday en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. Nonetheless, "it's also a good example of regional cooperation on a multinational rescue operation," said Zhu Feng, a China expert on international security issues, who is also a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington. "This could be a good model for the future." China blasts US comments on the South China Sea reef
Chinese coast guard vessels on Sunday drove away two Philippine ships carrying construction materials, including steel and cement. from the Ren'ai Reef of China's Nansha Islands. A US State Department spokesperson said on Wednesday that China's move was "provocative."
"The US comments ignored the facts, ran against its status as a non-claimant, and violated its commitment to not taking sides over the dispute," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a press release.

Hollywood documentary brings Diaoyu Islands truth to new audience
Nebe, said he shot the series about China as he felt tired that the Western media always reports a negative image of China. He noted the documentary had reliable sources, including pictures and footage he found from archives in Washington.
The 40-minute film, Diaoyu Islands: The Truth, carried the message that the islands have been Chinese territory since ancient times and Japan annexed them from China in 1895 after the First Sino-Japanese War. The film urged Japan to return the islands to China and make apologies for the crimes it committed during World War II.
