Why Pedestrian Safety Education is Important

• Pedestrian safety lessons teach important life-long skills

• When encouraging students to participate in Walk to School Day events it is important to teach them safe behaviors

• Curriculum includes Parking Lot and Bus Safety Lessons

• SC ranks 14th highest (Pedestrian fatalities account for 13% of all traffic fatalities in the United States, and 11% of all traffic fatalities in South Carolina)

• Nationally, one fifth of traffic fatalities age 14 or younger were pedestrians
