STEPHEN BOYKO ‘65

Steve was one of the school's first outstanding multi-sport athletes. As a member of the foot-ball, basketball and baseball teams his achievements set the standards for all those who would follow. In football, Steve, the quarterback, led the Vikings to the 1964 N.J.S.I.A.A. Group I Champi-onship. This was the Vikings' first state championship in any sport. At the conclusion of the 1964 season, Steve received All-State recognition by the Associated Press, the only quarter-back in school history to receive this honor. In baseball, Steve was the Vikings' ace pitcher and a key member of the 1964 and 1965 teams that were N.J.S.I.A.A. Group I Sectional Champions. Steve also played basketball, starring as a point guard on an 18-5 team that set the school rec-ord for wins. His success inspired the excellent late 1960's teams that succeeded him. Steve attended Bates College where he was the quarterback of the football team and a pitcher on the baseball team. After receiving a BA in History, he obtained an MBA in Finance from American University. Steve is an international capital market consultant and the author of numerous articles on fi-nancial issues as well as a book on the free market system.

KENNETH SKILLMAN ‘66

Although a highly skilled and physically imposing athlete, Ken was the quintessential "team play-er," and one whose skills and athleticism were first and foremost at the service of the various teams for which he competed. While wearing the Black & Gold, Ken received two varsity letters in each of three sports--football, basketball and baseball--in which he played offensive/defensive end, center and right field/first base, respectively. Ken was a key member of both the football team that was named N.J.S.I.A.A. Group I State Champions in 1964--the first team in school history to win a state championship--and the baseball team that won the N.J.S.I.A.A. Group I Sectional Championship in 1965. He also starred on the basketball team that reached the N.J.S.I.A.A. Group I Sectional Champion-ship game in both 1965 and 1966. At the conclusion of the latter season, he received both All-County 2nd Team and All-Area recognition. Ken attended Lafayette College, where he played basketball all four years, eventually serving as one of the team's co-captains. Ken's affection for teaching and coaching led him to South Plainfield High School, where he taught history and coached basketball and football, 1970 - 1978 and 2004 - 2013. He also worked for many years as a textbook editor and a Training and Sales Specialist for AT&T. Ken wishes to recognize his coaches for their contributions to athletic and personal success. These include Marshall Logan, George Hosea, Tony Toto, Nick Pazinko and Mike Elko (football); Robert Kochell and Alan Balcomb (basketball); and Mike Elko and John Wetzel

(baseball). Says Ken: "I would also like to mention Frank Brennan who, along with Nick Pazinko, inspired me to become a teacher, which I always was, even when I wasn't actually teaching for a living." As proud as he is to have represented the Vikings, Ken is prouder still of his family, which in-cludes his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Rebecca and Abigail; his sons-in-law, Ben and Richard; and

his grandchildren, Leah, Owen, Parker, Colby and Sydney.

JOHN SCHNEIDER ‘94

John was one of the best players in the history of the school's baseball program and his senior season was surely one of the finest ever by a Viking batsman, one in which he had 33 hits--11 for extra bases--scored 32 runs, batted .440 and had an On-Base % of .558. Over three varsity seasons John registered 65 hits--including 15 doubles, 3 triples and a home run--while walking 40 times, scoring 59 runs and contributing 35 RBIs. He also sacrificed 11 times and stole 19 bases in 22 attempts. Not surprisingly, John's excellence extended to his defensive play. In his last two seasons, playing almost exclusively at second base, he committed only four errors in 43 games. Following his senior season, John, the Vikings' M.V.P. and a starting second baseman in the Greater Middlesex Conference Coaches' All-Star Classic, received All-Division, All-Conference, All-Area and All-Academic recognition. As a fitting capstone to his remarkable career, he was also named All-State 1st Team / Central Jersey Group III and a New Jersey High School Baseball Coaches' Association (N.J.H.S.B.C.A.) All-Star / Central Region 1st Team 2B. Although John's primary sport was baseball, he was also an outstanding football player. A run-ning back, receiver and defensive end for the Vikings, he received All-Division and All-Academic recognition as well as All-Greater Middlesex Conference and All-Area Honorable Mention in his final two seasons. He also served as a captain and represented the Vikings and Middlesex County in the Snapple Bowl in 1994. John attended Rutgers University, where he played baseball for three years and received two letters. He was named to the Big East Conference's Academic All-Star Team for 1996-1997 and completed his collegiate career with a .300 batting average. John has worked for over 15 years for Bloomberg L.P., where he is a Sales Director for the Northeastern U.S. He and his wife Kim have two daughters: Samantha (8) and Jaclyn (6).

DOUGLAS ROCKHILL ‘97

Doug was one of the most prolific offensive players in the long and storied history of the school's boys' soccer program. In a sport where a striker's value is usually measured in goals alone, he is one of only four Vikings to have equaled or surpassed the 50-goal mark, and the only athlete to have done so over the past 34 seasons. This achievement, considerable as it is, barely scratches the surface of the scope of the capabil-ities Doug demonstrated while representing the Vikings' First 11. As Doug's coaches, teammates and opponents can attest, it was his extraordinary tenacity, de-termination and fearlessness that established him as one of the greatest all-around players to have competed in the Greater Middlesex Conference, a player who was often both the best of-fensive and defensive player in the same game. Doug was a three-time All-White Division selection as well as a two-time All-Greater Middle-sex Conference and All-Area selection; in his junior and senior seasons he was named by both

The Star Ledger and the New Jersey Soccer Coaches Association to the All-State Group III 1st Team. Following his sports career at S.B.H.S., during which he also received varsity letters in basket-ball and track, Doug took his stellar game first to the University of Massachusetts, and later to Montclair University. Doug is the Executive Director of W2O Digital. He and his wife Kristin are the parents of three sons: Grayson (5), Hudson (4) and Paxson (2).

TANYA EARL-HARTWYK ‘03

Tanya was one of the greatest and most diversely talented athletes to ever compete for the Vi-kings and a true star in soccer, winter track and lacrosse. In winter track, Tanya was a key member of the sprint contingent, achieving success between the 100M and 400M distances and winning Greater Middlesex Conference titles in both the 400M and 4X400M events. During her track career, she received All-Division, All-Greater Middlesex Conference and All-Area recognition. In lacrosse, where she competed as a center and attacking midfielder, her exceptional speed and scoring prowess established her as the program's first formidable player. Soccer was Tanya's primary sport and she quickly established herself as the county's preeminent striker as well as one of the best overall players in the state. After helping the Vikings to a division title in 1999, she led them to their first--and as yet only--Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title in 2001. Tanya tallied (39) goals and registered (30) assists over her final two seasons and remains the second leading scorer in the history of the program. At the conclusion of the 2002 season, Tanya received All-Division, All-Greater Middlesex Con-ference and All-Area recognition and was named the "Greater Middlesex Conference Player of the Year." Shortly thereafter, she was named to the All-State 1st Team--Group IV by both The Star Ledger and the New Jersey Girls' Soccer Coaches Association (N.J.G.S.C.A.). Tanya received M.V.P. awards for multiple years for all three of the teams. A natural leader, she served as a captain for each of those teams as well. Tanya continued her soccer career at Monmouth University, where she was a starting defender all four years. She competed in 67 of 68 games between 2003 - 2007 and was a two-time captain and a three-time M.V.P. Currently, Tanya is an elementary school teacher in the East Windsor Regional School District. She and her husband Kevin are expecting their first child later this year.

ANTHONY CLEMENTE ‘03

Anthony, one of the finest goalkeepers the state has yet produced, led the 2002 Vikings to their greatest soccer season ever. The team ended the season as the Greater Middlesex Con-ference's Red Division Champions for the first time and, after an epic run in the N.J.S.I.A.A. Tournament, Central Jersey Group IV Champions and N.J.S.I.A.A. Group IV semi-finalists. The team also finished #1 in The Home News Tribune Final Top 10 poll and was only the second Vikings' soccer team in 38 years to finish in the Top 25 poll conducted by the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey (S.C.A.N.J.). At the conclusion of the 2002 season, Anthony received All-Division, All-County, All-Greater Middlesex Conference and All-Area recognition from both The Home News Trib-une and The Star Ledger, while achieving 2nd Team All-Central Jersey honors by both The Star Ledger and the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey (S.C.A.N.J.). For his contributions to the Vikings' historic season, Anthony, who registered six shutouts to finish with (21) for his varsity career, was named "Co-Player of the Year" by The Star Ledg-er. Anthony also played baseball and basketball for the Vikings and in 2003 he was a member of the first baseball team in school history to win the Greater Middlesex Conference Tourna-ment. Upon concluding his stellar career as a Viking, Anthony attended Rowan University, where he was the starting goalkeeper for four seasons. During his 69 games in the net, he recorded 309 saves and allowed only 60 goals for an 83.7 save percentage and an extraordinary 1.02 goals per game average. In 2003 he led Rowan to a New Jersey Athletic Conference (N.J.A.C.) Championship and he received All-Conference recognition, 2003 - 2006. He was a Regional All-American and the team's M.V.P. in 2006, a season in which he also received the Adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (N.S.C.A.A.) honors.

Joseph was not only one of the best soccer players to ever represent the Vikings but one of the program's finest leaders as well. Under his stewardship, the 2002 Vikings had their great-est soccer season ever, finishing as All-Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division Champi-ons and, after an epic run in the N.J.S.I.A.A. Tournament, Central Jersey Group IV Champi-ons and N.J.S.I.A.A. For his contributions to the Vikings' historic season, Joseph was also named both "Player of the Year" by The Home News Tribune and "Co-Player of the Year" by The Star Ledger. The quintessential scholar-athlete, he was named "All-American" by the National Soccer Coaches' Athletic Association of America. Joseph also played baseball for the Vikings and was a key member of the first baseball team in school history to win a Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title, which it did in 2003. Joseph continued his education at Lehigh University, where he received four letters in soccer and helped the Mountain Hawks to the Round of 16 in the N.C.A.A. Division I Champion-ships in 2006. NICHOLAS CLEMENTE ‘03

Nicholas was one of the most creative and productive soccer players to ever represent the Vi-kings, a player whose 45 career goals--many of them timely and brilliant--rank fourth in the team's 50-year history. In the fall of 2002, Nicholas led the Vikings to their greatest season ever, during which it fin-ished as Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division Champions for the first time and, after an epic run in the N.J.S.I.A.A. Tournament and became the Central Jersey Group IV Champi-ons and N.J.S.I.A.A. Group IV semi-finalists as well. In addition, the team also finished #1 in The Home News Tribune Final Top 10 poll--one com-prising over 30 teams--and was only the second Vikings' soccer team in 38 years to finish in the Top 25 poll conducted by the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey (S.C.A.N.J.). For his contributions to the Vikings' historic season, Nicholas, who registered (22) goals and (6) assists--including two goals and an assist in the Vikings' 3-2 victory in the Central Jersey Group IV Championship game--received All-Division, All-County, All Greater Middle-sex Conference and All-Area recognition from both The Home News Tribune and The Star Ledger. He was also named All-State 3rd Team All-Groups (Top 45) by the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey (S.C.A.N.J.) and "Co-Player of the Year" by The Star Ledger. Nicholas played baseball all four years for the Vikings, and in 2003 was a key player on the first baseball team in school history to win the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. At the conclusion of the season, he was named to the All-Area 1st Team by The Home News Trib-une and The Star Ledger and invited to play in the Greater Middlesex Conference All-Star Game. An exemplary student as well as an excellent athlete, Nicholas was named both the Greater Middlesex Conference "Scholar-Athlete of the Year" and a National Soccer Coaches Associa-tion of America (N.S.C.A.A.) Academic All-American. After graduating from S.B.H.S., Nicholas attended Lehigh University where he played soccer for the Mountain Hawks for two seasons. Nicholas works as a Computer Programmer in the Contents Services Department for Bloom-berg L.P. in Skillman, NJ.

MICHAEL VALENTINO ‘03

Mike embodied both a level of physicality and a diversity of talent that would have made him a extraordinarily successful scholastic athlete in any sport, in any era. A winner of multiple varsity letters in several sports; football, wrestling and lacrosse. Mike

had perhaps the greatest senior year of any athlete in S.B.H.S. history. In the fall of 2002, Mike rushed for over 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns and was an All-Greater Middlesex Conference selection. That winter, while serving as a co-captain of the wrestling team, Mike was 31-4 at 160 lbs. After finishing in 2nd place in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament, he went on to win both District XX and Region V titles on his way to qualifying for the 2003 N.J.S.I.A.A. Individual Wrestling Championships in Atlantic City, where he advanced to the quarter-final round. He finished his career with 86 wins and remains one of the program's five most successful wrestlers in the Wins/Career category. Finally, in his twelfth and last season representing the Vikings, Mike scored 60 times for the lacrosse team to finish his career with 114 goals. For his remarkable efforts, he received All-Division, All-Conference, All-Area and All-State honors. Mike continued his wrestling career at McDaniel College, where he received All-Conference recognition. He is currently employed as an electrician.

LAUREN SOHMER ‘04

Lauren was one of the finest bowlers to ever compete for the Vikings and one of only three Vikings , male or female, to have won an N.J.S.I.A.A. state individual bowling champion-ship. A member of the varsity team for three years and a captain in her junior and senior seasons, she was a two-time All-Red Division selection (2003 - 2004) as well as an All-Greater Middlesex Conference selection (2004). In her senior year, she had what is arguably the greatest season ever by a Viking bowler, winning the Middlesex County Junior Masters Championship as well as the 2004 N.J.S.I.A.A. Girls' Individual State Championship in leading the Vikings to 4th place in the N.J.S.I.A.A. State Team Championships. For her extraordinary success, The Home News Tribune named her the "2003 - 2004 Winter Female Athlete of the Year" and The Star Ledger named her to its All-State 1st Team--one of only four Vikings to ever achieve that honor. After graduating from S.B.H.S., Lauren competed for four years at Pennsylvania State Uni-versity (2005 - 2008) and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2007 National In-tercollegiate Bowling Championships. Lauren is an Accounting--Human Resources Director and lives in northern New Jersey.
