Friday night Family Fun & Faith kick-off!

Friday, June 16 (5:30pm-8:00pm)

Pool Party at the Rico’s house.

Email Pastor Karen at [email protected]

to RSVP (# of adults, children & youth) and to get

the address.

Join us as we dive deeper into God’s amazing plan

for our lives and the lives of our families and as we literally “dive in” during this Family Pool Party!

one another) followed by family fun in the pool.

This is an evening for the whole family (parents/grandparents etc., children & youth). We will be

having a potluck at the Pool Party. The Ricos will cook up hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill.

Please include in your r.s.v.p. if you are able to bring any of the following: a side dish, chips,

watermelon/fruit, dessert.

faith & parenting journeys. – Peace and Blessings, Pastor Karen

UMCOR - 2017 - SEW WHAT?

In 2009 UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) opened a warehouse in Salt Lake City to

stockpile supplies needed for world wide relief by people who have suffered from natural disasters,

political strife, famine and lack of education.

In September, for the third year in a row, members of NUMC and First UMC of Reseda will be going to

Salt Lake City. The members of the Mission Team from NUMC are: Mike & Nancy Easterly; Martha &

Everto Ruiz; Gloria Myles, Virginia Johnson, Sally Taylor, Margaret Thomas.

This year, for the most part, the team will be assembling Sewing kits.

Sewing kits foster independence rather than dependence. Cottage industries often grow out of the

sewing classes where women use these kits to practice valuable income-gathering skills. In addition to

providing sewing kits in response to disasters, UMCOR supports projects around the world that help

women and girls develop sewing skills.

Reservations are now open for a 2018 Mission team to go to Salt Lake City. If you are interested in

making this worthwhile trip, contact Mike Easterly.

But please note the three critical attributes for mission trips are:

Flexibility; Flexibility; Flexibility.

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Our members in need What do you think when you see the names of our members on the screen who need our prayers each Sunday? Some of them are there because they have a near-term health concern, some because they are homebound or in a long-term care facility. What would it mean to these dear ones if each Sunday everyone took one name and sent them a card? Our Senior Ministry Team is working on being more active at keeping in touch with these people. Would you be willing to help us be a more caring, outreaching congregation by sending a card or making a phone call?

Church and Society Movie Night On Monday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kendall Building, the Church and Society team will present another timely film for you to enjoy. The film is "1971," which tells the story of people we now call the "Media Eight." These were eight extraordinarily brave people who risked long prison terms by breaking into an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania on March 8, 1971. Many peace activists had long suspected that the FBI was more interested in stifling legal dissent than it was in fighting crime. The raid on the FBI office was successful, and the activists took thousands of documents. Ultimately, these documents were published by the Washington Post, and this, in turn, brought about a public realization that the FBI wasn't protecting the American people, but rather was subverting the Constitution. The activists were never caught, and only revealed themselves in 2014. This 2015 documentary runs 79 minutes and is unrated.

Eat Out Monday Monday, June 12 (throughout the day) Souplantation 19801 Rinaldi St., 818-363-3027 Take the flyer with you! Souplantation will donate 20 percentage of your check to our NUMC’s Family Ministry program.

Noon Fellowship potluck lunch June 20 at 11:30 am in Kendall Building Bring your favorite dish to share. Speakers will be from San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission.

COMING SOON TO NORTHRIDGE UMC: HERO CENTRAL “FAMILY” VBS

SUNDAY JULY 23 – TUESDAY JULY 25 FROM 5:30PM-8:00PM

Registration forms are available in the church

office or on our Church website at

http://northridgeumc.org

COST PER FAMILY GROUP: $60

FAMILY VBS

This superhero adventure will help your family discover the qualities and strength that make

us truly heroic in God!

This is not your typical VBS. We’re asking you to come as a family, eat as a family, worship as

a family, and experience the lessons and fun filled activities together (science, arts & crafts,

games and more).

Each night we will come together at 5:30pm to share

a meal and afterward we will have a time of praise

and worship (Opening Assembly) and an engaging

bible lesson. We will finish our nights off with

activities that will help us all understand the theme

for the night even better.

This 3 evening family VBS includes engaging music

(the VBS music you have come to love!) & worship,

bible story lessons, arts & crafts, games, science and

more.

FAMILY VBS MEAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you are able to assist with cooking & serving the

meal for VBS families on Sunday July 23, Monday July 24 or Tuesday July 25, please email
