In its sixth year now, the awards endeavour to provide a comprehensive list of wines that de- serve to be savoured. More than 280 wines from 12 cat- egories will be judged on Sept 12 and the results will be announced at the Awards Presentation Gala Dinner on Sept 18. A panel of judges (hand-picked by Tower Club members) comprising well-respected hoteliers, sommeliers and wine consultants will spend a day in blind-tasting sessions. They will then award gold and silver medals to the best reds, whites and bubblies. The judging session will be mod- erated by Ch’ng Poh Tiong, a well- known wine expert who published the first-of-its-kind Guide to Bordeaux in Chinese. He is also a regular contribu- tor to Decanter magazine in the UK. The American Express Tower Club Wine Awards is a prestigious occasion in the Tower Club’s calendar of events. Established in 1997, Tower Club is Sin- gapore’s premier business club offer- ing members sporting events as well as food and beverage outlets where they can wine and dine at their own leisure or entertain important clients. “The awards acknowledge win- emakers who are producing the high- est-quality wines, and they introduce these desirable wines to our members. We have received overwhelming re- sponse not only from members, but also from the distributors, which is testimony to the continued success of the event,” says C T Ng, general manager of Tower Club. The food and entertainment at the Awards Presentation Gala Dinner will also be something to look forward to. Guests will be entertained by jazz band Moonshine Trio and the compère for the evening is none other than Cher- maine Cho. Guests will be treated to Chef Edwin Voon’s won- derful, creative menu. The evening will cul- minate with the sale of 23 magnum-size bottles of Château Beychevelle autographed by their winemaker Philippe Blanc.
