More News and Notes
Grabbing Rebounds and Blocking ShotsJunior Aly Conway had a huge weekend on the boards, grabbing 27 rebounds in two games. She corralled 15 in Thursday’s loss to UC San Diego and 12 in Saturday’s loss to Cal State East Bay. She also rejected four shots against the Tritons. The 15 rebounds on Thursday was the most by an SSU player since 2007 (Lauren Redfield) and the four blocks were the most since 1997 (Anne Baxter).
Conway Right On TargetJunior Aly Conway is quickly becoming a threat down low for the Seawolves this season, and her shooting efficiency is a direct result of that. Her 50.4 percent shooting from the floor is the CCAA’s fourth-best mark so far this season, as she’s connecting on 57 of 113 in Sonoma State’s first 18 games. Conway is third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per contest. The 6-foot forward from Martinez leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game and is second in the conference in offensive rebounds (4.0/game).
Insider Blog Featuring Larkin, VigilSenior Oly Larkin and sophomore Taylor Vigil are regular contributors to the new Seawolves Insider Blog. 2010-11 Sonoma State Women's Basketball
Mark Rigby returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Seawolves in 2010-11. The winningest coach in SSU women’s basketball history, Rigby has led his teams to an impressive 204-155 mark in 13 years at SSU. In con-ference play, Rigby’s Seawolves have amassed a record of 150-116.
Rigby has delivered a winning season in nine of his 13 seasons at the helm, including three 20-win seasons. In his first two years at Sonoma State, Rigby led his team to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 23 victories in 1998-99. His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has ac-complished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigby’s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle.
In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney.
One of the most successful high school coaches in the area, Rigby was the head coach at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa for ten seasons. At Ursuline, he compiled an oustanding 253-54 record while capturing nine North Bay League championships and the 1992 CIF Division IV State Champi-onship. After his stint at Ursuline, Rigby joined the staff at Santa Rosa Junior College for two years prior to his arrival at Sonoma State.
