four conference victories in the two-year span, three of which have come against the Seawolves.
Balanced Attack Leads Seawolves To Blow Out VictoryBehind the 18 points of Ben Washington and four others scoring in double-figures, the Sonoma State men’s basketball team avenged an earlier loss to UC San Diego with a convincing 83-60 victory over the Tritons on Thursday. The Seawolves continued their hot shooting, hitting 51.1 percent of their shots (23 of 45), including 14 of 27 in the first half. It wasn’t just shooting from the floor that kept the Seawolves up big all night, but Sonoma State hit 32 of 35 shots from the free throw line (91.4 percent), including 24 of 26 from the charity stripe in the second half. As the shots continued to rattle in, SSU played tight defense, forcing 17 UC San Diego turnovers by virtue of 11 steals, five of which were grabbed by Steven Pratt.
Six Wins From 500The Sonoma State men’s basketball program is just six wins away from its 500th victory. The team has been around since 1963 and is in its 43rd season, sporting a 494-627 record (.440 winning percentage). 17th-year head coach Pat Fuscaldo (229-217), SSU’s seventh men’s basketball coach, is the program’s winningest coach, topping former head coach Dick Walker, who led the Cossacks to a 190-243 record from 1978-1994.
Leading the ConferenceSonoma State leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in four statisti-cal categories this season and is second in two other categories. The Seawolves have the best field goal percentage (.473), free throw percentage (.761), assist/turnover ratio (1.1) and have the most assists per game (15.1). Sonoma State is second in the CCAA in scor-ing offense (73.9) and made three-point field goals (123).
Dish 'Em UpJunior Steven Pratt is handing out assists left and right. He is third in the CCAA in assists with 83 (4.6 a game). Pratt is currently eighth on the Sonoma State all-time list for most assists in a career with 228, which is 78 assists from the top of the list, held by Antoine Woods (305 in 1991-92, 93-94). Pratt has led the team in all but four of Sonoma State’s games this season.

2010-11 Sonoma State Men's Basketball
Pat Fuscaldo returns for his 17th season as head coach of the Sonoma State University men’s basketball team in 2010-11. In his previous sixteen years at the helm, Fuscaldo has a record of 223-207 overall and 170-140 in league play. In 2007-08, Fuscaldo became the winningest basketball coach in Sonoma State history and he is cur-rently the dean of Men’s Basketball coaches in the CCAA.
In 2005-06, Fuscaldo led the Seawolves to their first ever California Collegiate Athletic Association championship with a 16-4 conference record. For his efforts, Fuscaldo was voted the CCAA Coach of the Year by his peers. The squad also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the previous nine years. Individually, the ‘05-’06 Seawolves featured an All-American, two All-West Region players, four All-Conference stars, and the CCAA Player of the Year.
Before arriving at Sonoma State, Fuscaldo was the head coach at the College of Notre Dame (now Notre Dame de Namur) in Belmont. There, he turned a struggling program into a Northern California Athletic Conference playoff team in just three years. The Argonauts won just six games in his first season, but increased their victory total to ten the following year and 14 the next to earn a NCAC playoff berth and give Fuscaldo strong consideration for conference Coach of the Year honors.
Prior to joining the staff at Notre Dame, Fuscaldo was an assistant coach at Skyline College, serving two stints, 1985-86 and then 1987-91. While there, Skyline reached the California State Final Eight in 1990 and 1991, won Coast Conference championships in 1989, 1990, and 1991, and posted a cumulative record of 105-23.
Fuscaldo was an assistant coach at the University of San Francisco in 1986-87, and he has also coached at San Jose State and San Francisco State, where he received his Master’s Degree in Physical Education/Sports Psychology-Administration. He received his B.A. in Physical Education from San Francisco State in 1983.
As a player, Fuscaldo was a two-year performer for Eastern Connecticut State College in Willimantic, Connecticut. He attended St. Thomas Moore Preparatory School in Colchester and Greenwich High School in Greenwich. Pat is married to former Stanford All-American and ABL player Molly Gooden-bour, now the head women’s basketball coach at UC Irvine.
