History In thee late 19th century , through succession of

treaties with this kingdoms, the British and Italians gained control of parts of the cost, and established British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland.

In the interior, Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, dervish state successfully repulsed the British empire four time and forced it to retreat to the costal region ,but the Dervishes were final defeated in 1920 by British air power.

Freedom Fighters Sayid Mohammed Abdullah Hassan

was born April-7- 1856- December 21 -1920 was Somalia's religious and nationality leader called the Mad mullah by the British, who for 20 years led armed resistance to the British, Italian and Ethiopian Forces in Somalia.

Some regard Mohammed Abdullah Hassan as a pioneer of Somali Nationalism.

Sheikh Hassan Barsane Sheikh Barsane forces owned as estimated

16,000 rifles. In 1905 they stopped an attempted Ethiopian expanssion in the southern Somalia during the battle of Gumar Sheel. The sheikh and his men also fought various battle against Italian Troops including

After some initial success. He died three years later on 13-january-1927 in Mogadishu prison.

During the second world war, Britain occupied Italian Somaliland And military administered the territory from 1941 to 1950.

Faced with growing Italian Political pressure inimical to continued British tenure and Somali Aspiration for independence.

Overview of resources  Somalia has enormous natural resources.

It has two as yet untapped rivers. It has 8m hectares of cultivable land. It

has a 3,000km coastline, the longest in Africa, full of marine resources. It possesses huge deposits of uranium and other precious minerals. Last but not least, Somalia has substantial reserves of oil and gas; in fact, its reservoir of black gold is understood to be the second biggest in Africa.

The Exclusive Economic Zone Of Somalia Covers 830,389 Km2 In The Indian Ocean It Extends To A Distance Of 200 Nautical Miles From The Baselines, From Which The Breadth Of The Nation's Territorial Waters Is Measured. In Accordance With Law No. 37 Passed In 1972, Somalia's EEZ Falls Under Its Territorial Sovereignty.
