Solutions, Inc. In 2012, Solutions Inc. designed fabricated and installed a new Steam and Water Sample (SWAS) System at a Combined Cycle plant located in the Southwestern US with a generating capacity of approximately 490 MW. The plant configuration is two ‘blocks’ of two gas turbines/two Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG’s)/one steam turbine combination (a “2-on-1” configuration). The original SWAS had several deficiencies: 1. The design did not meet the standards of ASTM D5540 governing sample conditioning and flow control; 2. Substandard components including back pressure valves and rotameters were causing uncontrolled variations in sample flow; 3. Solid particles, particularly magnetite in the sample streams were depositing in sample lines and valves resulting in loss of sample flow; 4. A glycol recovery tank was missing.
