BrØnsted-Lowry Definition

• Substances that donate a proton (H+ ion) in a reaction are acids.

• Substances that accept a proton (H+ ion) are bases.

Arrhenius acids and bases make H+ and OH- ions in solution. BrØnsted-Lowry bases are also Arrhenius bases.
