General information on solar cell technologySolar cells directly convert sunlight into electricity by means of the

photovoltaiceffect.Thisoccurswhenphotonsareabsorbedbyasolar

cellwhichgeneratesavoltageacrossitsterminals.Cellsareconnected

inserieswithinasolarmoduletoprovidesufficientvoltagetooperate

asystem.Modulescanbeconnectedinseriesandparalleltoincrease

thesystempower.Thissolidstateprocessprovidesaclean,silent,non

pollutingandreliablesourceofelectricalenergy.

A crystal is a regular geometric state taken up by a material’s

constituentelementsincertainconditions.Monoandmulticrystalline

cellsaresiliconwaferssliced fromcylindricalsiliconcrystals.These

wafers are then chemically treated in furnaces to enhance their

electricalproperties,afterwhichananti-reflectioncoatingisapplied

tothecellsurfacetohelpitabsorbradiationmoreeffectively.

Thinmetalwiresaresolderedtothefrontofthecell.These“ribbons”of

metalonthecellactasthepositivecontact,whileasolidlayerofmetal

onthebackofthecellactsasthenegativecontact.

Monocrystalline and multicrystalline materials are chemically stable,

makingthemdurableandextremelylong-lasting,ifproperlyprotected.

Theyprovidetheidealtechnologyformakingsmall,andmediumtolarge

solarmodules.

Monocrystalline cells have a single colour tone, whereas

multicrystallinecellsurfaceshavemultipatterns.Multicrystallinecells

haveanefficiencyof9-13%,compared to11-16%formonocrystalline

cells.(i.e.ifsolarradiationisstrikingthecellsataperpendicularangle

withanintensityof1000W/M²,then90to130Wattsofpowerperm²of

solarcellisconvertedtoelectricity).

Sollatek multicrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules

Sollatek’shighefficiencysolarmodulesareconstructedfrom36or72

crystallinecellsconnectedinseriestoraisethesystemvoltageto12Vor

24V.

Thecellsare individually testedandmatched foroptimumperformance

beforebeingbuilt intoaprotectivemodulestructure.ATedlar®base is

used with ethylene vinyl acetate as an encapsulant. High transmission

tempered glass protects the cells from the front with a high strength

polymersheetattherear.

A reinforced aluminium frame completes the laminate structure which

is fully sealed against moisture and protected from environmental and

mechanicaldamage.

PowerconsumptionandheatgenerationareminimisedintheCPsinceefficientsolidstatecircuitryisusedinsteadofballastresistorstypicalofearliercathodicprotectionunits.

Thepowercircuitcontainsnomovingpartstowearoutorbreakdown.qualitydigitalvoltageandcurrentmetersprovideoutputmonitoringwhichfacilitatesfieldadjustment.recalibrationcanbeperformedinminuteswithoutspecialtoolsormeterequipment.

Sincecorrosionprotectionsystemsnormallyoperateinremote,unattendedsites,theyneedtobeprotectedfromcommoneventsthatmakethemfailsuchas:lightningexposure,batterydamage,andshortcircuit.That'swhyeverySollatekCPUnitincludeslightningtransientsuppression,alowbatteryshut-downcircuitandoutputoverloadprotection.

Ourdualtransientprotectionnetworkwillsuppresselectricalspikesandsurgesthatnormallydamagefieldequipment.Ifthestoragebatteriesbecomedischargedduetocloudydaysorphotovoltaicsystemfailure,theCPUnitwillautomaticallyshutdown,preventingexcessivedischargewhilstprotectingthebatteryfrompermanentdamageandcostlyreplacement.

Ourbuilt-incircuitbreakerpreventsdamagetotheCPandothercomponents,shouldtheoutputleadsbecomeshortedtooneanother.Tohelpreduceoverallsystemcost,theCPincludesadjustablecurrentandvoltageoutputs.

Solar Control Centre (SCC)

TheSollatekSolarControlCentre(SCC)is the lateststateof theartcontrollerspecifically developed and producedforprofessionalapplications requiringthe highest levels of performance.Fully expandable, enabling the SCC togrow in size in line with customers’

expansionrequirements.Thisisachievedthroughtheadditionofsolid-statepowerswitchingmodulesdependingonthesolar/loadrequirements.The microprocessor controlled charge controller will alsoprovidecomprehensivemetering,loggingandcommunicationsdesignedtoprovidetheuserwithaccuratedigitalinformation,clearlyindicatingthestateofthesolarmodulesandthebattery.

Dual Splitter Networks (redundancy)

The SDS (Solar Diode Splitter) and LDS (Load Diode Splitter)areused insystemswith twoSCCsandtwobatterybankstooffercompleteredundancyasadualsplitternetwork.

Solar Diode Splitter - SDSTheincomingsolarfeedsaretakentotheSolarDiodeSplitter.This incorporates a high power diode network, which allowscurrent to flow to both SCCs and allows the output from thesolar array to be used by both solar controllers. This systemhastheadvantageofsimplicity,andthereforereliability.Thereare no electromechanical parts to fail due to wear and tear,facilitatingoptimumbatterylifeandsystemreliability.

SiteWatch –internet based solar power monitoring system with remote access – a dramatic reduction in site visits.

Sollatek SiteWatch is a remotemonitoring and data logging systemwhich allows near real time monitoringofallremotesolarpowersitesforeverycustomer, regardless of where theyare. It gives a constant indication ofthe status of all sites at a glance andhighlights any warnings or problems assoonastheyaredetected.

Provided you have a higher level ofpermission for the system control, you

canalsomakeadjustmentsandcontrolcertainaspectsoftheremotesolarpowersystemsoastomakefurthertestsandtakepreventativeaction. You can access the data from any computer with internetconnectionwiththeaddedassuranceofadvancedsecurity.

Sollatek’s SiteWatch also has a data logging feature. This enablescollection, recording, analysis and display of information from theremotesites.Thisallowsthesitecontroller tocheckallsystemsareworking at peak efficiency, calculating the return on investment, aswellaspredictingpreventativemaintenanceplans.

Weather monitoring
