What is sociology?

In your pairs discuss what you think sociology might be?

What is sociology?Sociology has been a controversial subject in schools and has only relatively recently just been taught.

It can be a very personal subject and can change the way you look at things in society.

In addition it will destroy your perception of things that you took for granted.

What is sociology?It is not:• Social work / social skills

Physiology = The study of the individual

Sociology = The study of social groups

Sociology could be described as a science of society

What is sociology?Sociology is so popular because crosses over with a lot of different over subjects:• History• English• Science• Humanities

How is the course set out?

In the AS level you have two modules:1. The Family

2. Education

You will be assessed in two exams in May 2013.

This is the only assessment.
