I have spent many years writing to, speaking to, and training my clients to regulary post updates on their company Facebook page. Most importantly, however, I have taught to heavily monitor client responses. Not paying attention to customers and/or potential customers’ comments can be surprisingly devastating to a company’s reputation. This oversight can cause you to lose a loyal or even new customer. Recently, I have noticed the pendulum swinging in a negative direction when it comes to customer service. It is concerning, considering it is a risk companies can easily avoid. What am I talking about? For over a year I called my phone carrier, Sprint, to tell them my normally satisfying service had progressively declined. Every few months I called Sprint, speaking to management. They offered discounts on my bill and assured me that the general issue with the local cell towers would be fixed. Managers expressed sympathy with my situation, but none of them allowed a waive of my Early Termination Fees, therefore prohibiting me to switch to a different carrier. In fact, Sprint insisted I had an approximate 97% call rate, to which they refrained from helping me any further.

I decided to seek online pathways by visiting Sprint Corporate Facebook page to post a public complaint. I received an immediate Facebook response from Sprint. In addition, many other customers chimed in agreeing they were having similar technical issues and horrible customer service. Sprint requested I email them about the problem, unbeknownest to them of my pervious attempts. I followed their instructions and sent the email. A few hours later I received a phone call from Sprint informing me of a 24 hour resolution! One day later, Sprint waived my Early Termination Fees on all three of my lines.

Do not make the mistake of focusing on trivial implements of a Facebook page, only to neglect the words of your customers. Customers used to prefer handling matters in private, however, now they have turned to public forums such as Facebook for resolution. Of course, they may also post on their own Facebook profile to enlighten their “friends”. It is crucial to pay attention to ALL customer inquiries, concerns and complaints no matter the source of origination. Be sure you respond to negative comments immediately and appropriately, to upkeep great PR. Sprint was a small fish in a big pond of companies who did not correctly handle their customer service, just remember how easy it is to avoid being in that pond.

Look at our poster child, Angela, the face of WHY Ranch and the girl on our ONE Child Fundraiser invitations. Take a good, deep look at her and her horse, Sunshine. You’ll see her laughing and

smiling. A confident young woman ready to face her next adventure. You’d

never guess that Angela thought of ending her life. You might not even

expect that “friends” encouraged An-gela, as she reached out for help by

sharing her sadness and hopelessness on Facebook, to kill herself. Imagine

yourself as Angela’s mom or dad seeing that post for the first time wondering if today is the day you will lose her. You see, Angela isn’t just someone’s child, she represents one of the 14% of all

youth ages 12-17 who contemplate and even plan suicide because of being bul-lied in a 24/7 accessible society. She could be your child, living in your own home with her door closed, seeing the

mean words her peers are saying about her on the internet and falling into

depression because she doesn’t know how to effectively express what she’s

going through.

ONE CHILD, ONE HORSE, WHY RANCH

Page 13: Society Magazine August/September Issue

Society 13

Fortunately, Angela is no longer apart of that statistic. She found her purpose, hope and courage to walk through another day because of the FREE ‘Diamonds in the Rough’ equestrian edu-cation program at WHY Ranch. I can wholeheartedly say there isn’t a greater gift than when a parent comes to me with tear-filled eyes expressing, “Thanks for giving me back my child.”

You’ll be able to watch glimpses of Angela’s life at WHY Ranch

during our ONE Child Fundraiser Saturday, July 19, 2014. Please visit our website at www.whyranch.org for more infor-mation and to learn how YOU can be the ONE to make a positive change in the Socially Challenged Youth of our community.

Our focus is serving socially challenged youth by helping them regain their self esteem, build confidence, react constructively and effectively to adversity, strengthen their family and change our community “one child” at a time. Like Angela, the kids who join our program learn to proactively handle adversity they may face when being bullied, judged, made fun of or encouraged to “go along with the group.”

“Socially challenged” simply means any child who has diffi-culty dealing with social situations with confidence in adverse situations. Socially challenged youth is our kids who are fall-ing through the cracks of our society due to being bullied; Cy-ber-bullied; facing physical, mental or sexual abuse; dealing with personal illness; a death or divorce.

We are unwise to look back at our own childhood experiences as a measure of what kids face in today’s world. I am 45 and remember my mom telling me to, “Buck up and deal with it” when I was bullied in school. Yes, I was bullied and made fun of for being smart, quiet and for having red hair and freckles. A common phrase I would hear, “I’d rather be dead than red on the head!” Simple words I consistently encountered at school. I could easily leave them behind on the walk home. I knew I could somehow avoid those bullies outside of school. The in-ternet, however, is a different story. It is a great and powerful tool that can be used for evil, not just good. My friends, we live in an age where a child is literally stalked, bullied, harassed and taunted 24/7. They can not get away from hurtful words, actions and embarrassing pictures posted anytime of the day for the entire world to view and share. Imagine being bullied eighty-Six thousand seconds in a day; twenty-four/ seven for

three hundred and sixty-five days a year.

There are so many excellent youth programs in Las Vegas, no doubt. However, when a child is already a “loner”, “with-drawn” or “anti-social”, they will not automatically interject themselves into a large group. Instead they are quiet, do not participate in activities, and hestitate makinng friends. These are the kids that WHY Ranch wants to reach out to. These kids

will have the freedom to gain that self-esteem and Confidence to join another organization while being a part of another or-ganization and even the have the courage to reach and fulfill the desires of their hearts. WHY Ranch kids gain the qualities to become good leaders and to positively mold and shape the future of our community…even the world.

Many of you might be asking, “why is WHY Ranch so small?” WHY Ranch is a ‘Grassroots’ organization. We started small with four socially-challenged youth members and have experi-enced steady growth through the years. We were very grateful to our partner ranches and stables who opened their facilities to assist us while we grew. I did not embark upon this adven-ture alone. I surrounded myself with amazing people who also have a passion for horses and making a positive impact in the lives of youth who simply need a ‘leg up.’

WHY Ranch has been nine years in the making. This year, we celebrate five incredible years of the WHY Ranch ‘Diamonds in the Rough’ FREE Equestrian Education program! We have successfully and positively changed the lives of 35 socially challenged youth, their families, their school situations and our community. I can not help but SHOUT about the stories of these beautifully courageous kids and their families. You must cele-brate with us at our ONE Child Fundraiser! We are bringing the celebration to the Nation and will launch our powerful, gripping and sometimes funny documentary fall 2014. We want you to be the first to see it, so keep visiting whyranch.org for details.

The most incredible news: I am thrilled to announce the pur-chase of our “forever home” near Rhodes Ranch. WHY Ranch will officially open our doors to offer the free “Diamonds in the Rough” equestrian education September 2014! We anticipate at least 300 participants walking through our gates in the next year.

Those kids will have an experience of a lifetime and a chance to feel the un-conditional love of a horse. Why horses? Horses do not take notice of the impor-tance of aestetics like so many today do. Horses look past the façade of strength or fakeness. Horses only see the vul-nerable child hidden deep within a hard shell. I have witnessed tough inner-city kids soften within the first introduction to our horses. There are no lies to tell. No judgment to be made. No names being called. No one to be afraid of or avoid. No race. No social class. Just One child and One horse. I have to be BOLD here. You are our com-munity. The very community WHY Ranch is changing every year, One Child at a time. WHY Ranch is a non-profit organization and cannot survive without your finan-cial support. The generous donation giv-en from your heart will help WHY Ranch reach more kids in our community. We have only two paid staff members and completely rely on the help of volunteers. All donations go directly to our program unless otherwise requested by you.

Together we can bring 14% even lower. Together, we can help the youth of Las Vegas find their worthiness, their value and their confidence. Together, we can decrease the Las Vegas high school dropout rate and increase the number of teen graduates.

Together, we are positively impacting our community, One Child at a time.

Life coaching has been used for many years by all types of leaders. Many professionals, such as athletes, use life coaching to motivate them into their peak performance. Coaching, at its best, is the art of bringing out the great-ness in people.

It is so important for you to know what is keeping you from your best game. Achieving our goals and intentions in the business environment includes interacting with others. Pretty much everyone around us is stuck in something, too! By investing in a life coach, it organically translates to a higher level of communication and interaction with others, and in turn supports and amplifies the fulfillment of your goals and intentions for your business.

Today’s life coaches concentrate on results rather than principles or theories surrounding the problem. This is done with the help of teachable sets of principles, knowl-edge, and skills. The goal is to build confidence in an in-dividual by guiding them through self-discovery. They will find blocks and patterns of thought or behavior that they don’t necessarily know how to work with. Life coaching guides a person to be aware of their actual needs, which I call “goals” and “intentions”, as well as the ways in which they can manipulate them in their business and personal life.

One of the powerful tools I use with my clients is the En-neagram. This is perfect for guiding them in their fulfill-ment of their intentions and goals in life. It is a simple sys-tem that quickly (and with uncanny accuracy) reveals the motivation and strategies for the decisions and choices we make every day. It is a profound tool that uncovers the patterns and blind spots that keep a person from seeing a clear path. The Enneagram is one of the most cutting-edge tools available today to enhance your human potential in all areas of your life. Its effects are faster, deeper, and have lasting results.

For those new to the Enneagram, there is evidence that has been around since the 4th century. Today, it is used worldwide in every professional and academic field. The system identifies nine core life strategies, consisting of emotional and thought-like habits that each of us use to navigate through life. The Enneagram is very differ-ent from personality tests or even typical diagnostics. It is a rich system that gives one access to a much deeper self-awareness and how you apply this knowledge to the intentions and goals of your business and your life. The nine types are well-documented, and once you have identified your type, you will have a custom roadmap for

self-awareness and self-development. Unlike many of the current “self-help” books and approaches that tend to ad-vocate one overall approach for all aspects, the Ennea-gram fits you. It reveals what creates reactivity, stress, and upset in yourself and others.

Life coaching is to elicit your most genuine aspirations, and then inspire them, going in-depth with tremendous forward momentum.

If you ever walked out of a casino with more money than you came in with or had a kinship to an Irish leprechaun you just might have luck on your side. Too bad being lucky isn’t bestowed on us for living a re-spectable life. For most of us who have neither the perpetual luck of the Irish, nor made more donations to casinos than withdrawals, luck is

not a safe bet.

How many past times have you said to yourself, “That was a close call.” It doesn’t matter if you are doing things around the house or at work – accidents inevitably happen.

Ever hear about some innocent person who was killed or se-verely injured at work or on the road from just being at the wrong place at the wrong time? Sure, we all have. Unfortu-nately, those folks had little or nothing to do with their suffering or tragic outcome. Most would say they had no control over the stupid mistakes made by others. Or could they have? That is an interesting question to think about.

During the course of our busy lives, whether at work or while driving around town, we do have control, albeit limited, if we’re not watching out for “the other person.” So there you have it! Ever hear of the word proactive? Defined as serving to prepare for, intervene in, or control an expected occurrence or situation, especially a negative or difficult one. That is not to say that even if we are the most proactive person, some unexpected harm or accident will find its way to intersect us during the course of our lives.

So what’s the point? The point of this “Are you safe or just lucky” message is we all possess the ability to perform, what-ever it is we’re doing, in the safest possible manner, and to ensure we follow established and taught safety rules.

Yes, that means whether at work, home, play, or while we’re driving, we need to avoid taking shortcuts, or--in safety jar-gon--“deviating from an established safe practice” to avoid an accidents. So the next time you are feeling “lucky,” I hope it is at a casino, racetrack, playing a board game or the lottery, and not doing a task that requires your undivided attention. Stay safe my friends.
