CourseDescriptionIntrotoSocialMediawillfamiliarizestudentswiththeevolution,revolutionaswellasthestatusandfutureofsocialmediaforcommunicationsprofessionals.This“howto”coursefocusesonsocialmediabestpracticesforcontent,frequency,visualsandthemechanicsbehindeach.Studentswilllearnhowsocialmediainfluencesadvertising,publicrelations,marketing,customerserviceandotheraspectsofcommunications.ThecourseexploresthedifferencesbetweenthemajorsocialmediachannelsincludingFacebook,Twitter,LinkedIn,Instagram,PinterestandSnapchat.Inaddition,studentswilllearn:

• Thestrategyofdevelopingasuccessfulsocialmediaplan• Thesignificanceofpaid,earnedandownedsocialmedia• Audiencetargetingincludingpersonaandpsychographics• Socialmediaoptimization• Socialmediaproductivity/ROI

Further,thisclasswillteachstudentstheskillsandstrategicprinciplesneededtodevelopasocialmediacommunicationsplan.Inaddition,sharetheimportanceofusingastrategicapproachforusingsocialmediainanintegratedmarketingcommunicationsplan,corporate/personalbranding,contentcreationandaudienceidentification.Theclassisbasedonthelatestresearchandpracticalapplication,theclasswillshowstudentsthehowandthewhyforstrategicsocialmediaandsharehowtotakeclasslearningsintoaprofessionalcareer.Thecoursewillgivestudentsthetoolstheyneedtoadaptwhattheylearntonewplatformsandtechnologythatmayemergeinthefuture.Byfocusingontheroleofsocialmediainstrategicplanningforadvertising,PR,marketing,non-profitadvocacyandinternationalcommunicationstudentswillleavewithabroadbaseofpracticalknowledgefortheircareer.CourseDesign/ExpectationsThiscoursewillcombinebothlivesessionsandrecordedlectures.LiveclasssessionswillbeheldselectTuesdaynightsofthesemesterstartingat7pmEST.Accesstheclassat:https://ufl.zoom.us/j/396458150SeethesyllabusANDclasscalendarforliveclassdates.Thesedatesmaybesubjecttochangedependingonclasscircumstances,yetanotherreasontokeepupwiththeAnnouncementstab.LecturesTherecordedmaterialswillhelpyoutounderstandkeyconceptsandassignments.Thesearereinforcedinanonlinehomeworkandinwrittensubmissions.Pleasenote:Followonlythesyllabusforassignments,duedatesandotherrelevantinformation.Somemayhavechangedsincethelectureswererecorded.AssignmentsYouwillhaveregularassignments,andthesewillbethebasisforyourfinalgrade.Therewillalsobeseveralin-classteamexercisestobepresentedinourliveclasses.FortheseIwill
