...social media is that which allows users to share ideas, discussions and multimedia with each other on a global scale.

This is not to be confused with “Industrial” or “Mass” media; such as television, film and newspapers.

With Social media, the audience become less of a consumer base and more of a “user.” You create or post the media and decide who to share it with.
