Russia released an astronomical sum of $ 50 billion to host the Winter Olympics. It's by far the most expensive games in the history of Olympic sport. This amount is 5 times greater than originally planned. Compared to previous events, it is $10 billion more than the cost of the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and more than 3 times more than the budget of the Olympic Games in London in 2012. According to Russian opposition, the extravagance hides corruption and theft on an incredible scale.
