A BENEFIT FOR THE NEVADA COUNTY LAND TRUST
Western Nevada County is endowed with a rich mosaic of beautiful landscapes and small towns. Our farms and ranches feed our communities. The quality of life here is tightly connected to the land. The oak woodlands of the Sierra Foothills are changing as open landscapes are developed.
Nevada County Land Trust is a non-profi t, membership-supported group promoting voluntary conservation of our natural, historical and agricultural resources to provide a lasting community heritage.
Nevada County has no parks and recreation district. The Nevada County Land Trust fi lls this void by protecting 5,000 acres of land as open space, about half of which is agricultural land. The Trust also provides space for four public parks, 20 miles of local multi-use trails, a nature camp that houses 250 kids and takes about 1,000 people each year on guided trekking excursions throughout the region.
Nevada County Land Trust, accredited by the Land Trust Alliance, follows an American tradition of local land trusts that began in the mid-1800s, joining the efforts of over 1,800 local land trusts nationwide.
THE NORTH STAR HOUSEThe Stars benefi t concert is held on the 14-acre grounds
of the North Star House. This historic hidden treasure, nestled under pine trees and a big sky, is only one hour from Sacramento. The 10,000 square foot mansion, built in 1906 and designed by Julia Morgan, is an early example of California vernacular Arts and Crafts design and is considered an epic achievement by the young designer and fi rst licensed female architect in the nation. It was the residence of North Star Mine Superintendent Arthur De Winte Foote and his wife, author and illustrator Mary Hallock Foote. The House is currently under historic renovation with plans to become a community event facility. This will be the second year this large-scale event will take place on the spectacular landscape of giant ponderosa pines, a heritage orchard and sloping lawns.

AARON NEVILLE QUINTETPlus Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk
Over the past fi ve decades, the indelible spirit of New Orleans has been synonymous with the musical dynasty known as the Neville Brothers. With one of the most distinctive and refi ned tenor voices in pop music, New Orleans-based vocalist Aaron Neville has enjoyed a long and successful career.
Known for his 1960s classic “Tell It Like It Is,” Neville often collaborates with other vocalists as well as his brothers. He created a body of classic soul music in the 1960s and 1970s. Neville re-emerged during the 1990s as a ballad singer, most notably in duets with pop singer Linda Ronstadt and country diva Trisha Yearwood.
In 2006, Neville released Bring it on Home: The Soul Classics, which, in the words of one Rolling Stone writer, “reached a highpoint in a career marked by artistic superlatives … an album for the ages and Neville’s most remarkable work to date.”
In grand New Orleans style, Aaron Neville’s latest release, I Know I’ve Been Changed, celebrates the artist’s 50th year in recorded music. Neville has been nominated for 16 Grammys in categories as diverse as country and western, pop, R&B and gospel.
Formed in 2003, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk has since grown into what is now widely considered to be New Orleans’ most popular musical export. The band was recently voted 2007’s “New Orleans Best Funk Band” by both Offbeat Magazine and Gambit Weekly, and performs at some of the nation’s largest music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Voodoo Fest, 10,000 Lakes and High Sierra.
