SNOW LEOPARDBy: Preston Boyce
IntroductionSnow leopards are large cats that live in snowy, mountainous regions such as the Himalayas and mountains surrounding Mongolia, Afghanistan, and Nepal.
DietSnow leopards mainly eat Ibex or other types of wild goat but if necessary, they will eat hare, bird, marmot, or common livestock.
Reproduction and GestationThe male snow leopard can reach 170 pounds while the female can grow to only 55 pounds. Their gestation period lasts around 3 months and a female can have from 1-5 cubs.
THREATS! AAAAAAAAH!!The IUCN lists snow leopards as “Endangered”, and there are around 4,000-6,500 left in the wild while there are about 600-700 in zoos around the world. The threats to the species are: Poachers killing them for their fur Decrease in habitat Decline in prey Farmers killing them when they feel threatened by snow
leopards
What is being doneOrganizations like Snow Leopard Trust and the World Wildlife Fund are helping by setting up natural parks to protect against poachers, and local governments around Mongolia are talking to farmers about the danger of hunting these animals
What can you do?Symbolically adopting a snow leopard donates to the WWF and helps them stop the rapid decline of the species before it goes extinct, or you can help by spreading the word of the danger snow leopards are in to your friends.
The End Thank you!
