Fear that grade
won’t be enougWITH GCSE results released thisweek, a report has found that 93per cent of young people are wor-ried good grades won’t be enoughto secure a job.
The report from The Duke of Edin-burgh’sAward highlights thatachiev-ing their grades is not their only wor-ry, with many reported to feel underpressure and concerned about havingthe right skills to secure a job aftereducation.
An overwhelming 93 per cent of the DofE participants surveyed, whowere expecting exam results thissummer, reported feeling under pres-sure to demonstrate not just theiracademic achievements to potentialemployers but also that they will bean ‘all-rounder’ in the workplace.
They believe that as well as academ-
ic performance, employers now ac-tively look for evidence of soft skills, such as commitment, teamwork andself-management, and are feelingunder pressure to be able to demon-strate these skills as a result.
With the job market for entry-levelpositions remaining highly competi-tive, young people are looking forways to differentiate themselves fromother candidates.
Just over 80 per cent believed thatcompleting their DofE Award wouldmake it easier for them to get a job.
