CELEBRATING AMBUKLAO HEPP’S

1948 – President Manuel Roxas submits a Bill to Congress authorizing expenditure of the proceeds of a loan for the construction of certain hydro-electric projects. One of the major undertakings was the Ambuklao Power Project.

1953 – Pres. Elpidio Quirino in his State of the Nation Address reports that “Ambuklao is 15% completed.”

1957 – Pres. Ramon Magsaysay inaugurates Ambuklao at the Balintawak Station.

1990 – Luzon is hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, leading to siltation and damages that affected Ambuklao’s technical operations.

2008 – Indigenous ceremony is held marking the turnover of Ambuklao-Binga to SN Aboitiz. Rehabilitation begins in the 4th quarter.

2010 – Plugging of old tunnel is complicated by siltation from Typhoon Pepeng. SNAP pursues alternative of constructing a new and extended headrace tunnel.

2009 – Typhoon Pepeng devastates Benguet and parts of Luzon, affecting the rehabilitation project.

2011· 1st quarter: Switchyard is energized.· 2nd quarter: Tunnels are watered; Unit 3 goes on-line.· 3rd quarter: Ambuklao receives Certificate of Compliance.· 4th quarter: Ambuklao is inaugurated.
