Smoking in public can cause an assortment of troubling effects for those who want to live a smoke-free lifestyle and the help the environment of others. I strongly believe that smokers should treat smoking as a luxury and smoke at home, sadly that is not always true. Everywhere you go, there is always someone taking a smoke break: in the Wal-Mart parking lot, pumping gas and they even have there own section in restaurants. With a lot more help from the community this can be change. Smoking in public requires change soon because it is a bad influence on younger kids, second hand smoke can be very dangerous and can also trigger asthma.

According to the Health Ministry in China, the new smoking rule will come into effect May 1 in public places including busses, restaurants and bars.

One million people die a year from smoking-related illnesses.

There are two types of second hand smoke, side stream and mainstream. Side stream smoke is the smoke that is released from the burning end of a cigarette, and mainstream smoke is the smoke that is exhaled by the smoker. Both of these types of smoke contain not only tobacco smoke, but also residue from paper and chemicals used to treat the tobacco. Side stream smoke is responsible for approximately 85% of the smoke in a room.

Tens of thousands of heart attacks could have been prevented by reducing exposure to secondhand smoke. Other conditions such as lung cancer, and coronary heart disease can also develop from exposure to secondhand smoke. Signs such as, non-smoking signs placed in public places help, but are right next to smoking areas which defeats the purpose of a safe environment.

Ohio voters are also trying to ban smoking at public parks, outdoor recreation areas and city owned buildings. That means smokers will have to walk 150 feet away from the entrance or exit of any city owned building Just to smoke. The councilman wants to fine any individual breaking the rules $150 for your first offense and $250 for any other time.

Without a safe environment second hand smoke can easily trigger someone with severe asthma. And can cause a fatal attack. This is very unfair for the general public who want to live a non-smoking lifestyle.

There can be a very bad influence on children who see people smoke in public. If they are not used to seeing this at home, then they are being wrongfully exposed to smoking. Children and teens pick up very bad habits from there surroundings. Smokers do not realize the harmful things they are putting into the air by exhaling second hand which can be unsafe for children but also pregnant women and the elderly.

People who do not smoke but are subjected to passive smoking in the home, have a twenty five percent enhanced possibility of heart disease and lung cancer.
