FIRST READING ACTS 10:34. 37-43

Peter has travelled to Caesarea spreading the good news about Jesus and is now in the house of a Roman soldier called Cornelius. Peter is telling the listeners all about Jesus. Peter is like a witness in a court today; he has

seen everything that happened to Jesus and now is telling everyone the truth. After he was killed Jesus really did come back from the dead. Peter and the other disciples know it’s the truth because they met the risen Jesus.

SECOND READING COLOSSIANS 3:1-4

St Paul writes that believing in Jesus is like having a new life. We can enjoy a great life with Jesus and be really happy, but we must remember to focus on Jesus and trying to live as he asked. If we follow

Jesus’ example and try to love people we will be truly happy and will share eternal life with him too. It’s easy to get distracted but Jesus will help us to keep love at the centre of our lives.

Even though Jesus had told his friends he would rise from the dead, they didn’t understand he meant it literally. Today we celebrate the fact that it really did happen! The disciples really did meet the risen Jesus – and ate and drank with him too!

STAND to LISTEN to the priest or deacon as he prepares to read the Gospel. What does the priest or deacon do to the book when he has finished reading the Gospel?

GOSPEL JOHN 20:1-9

Mary Magdalen was alarmed when she went to Jesus’ tomb and found his body was missing. She ran to tell Simon Peter and the other disciples, thinking that perhaps someone had stolen the body. The disciples ran to the tomb to see for themselves and saw

the linen cloths which had been wrapped round Jesus’ body lying on the ground. Then they knew. Jesus was alive! Everything in the scriptures, and everything that Jesus had said, made sense. Now the disciples understood that Jesus had risen from the dead.

The Good News about Jesus is told to us by St John.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFULDear Lord, I would like to pray for anyone who is sad today. Bless and comfort them and help them find happiness again. Lord, hear my prayer.

OFFERTORY PROCESSIONAs we take our gifts of bread, wine and money to the altar, think of a time when you were sad this week, then think of a time when you were really happy. Say a little prayer offering these thoughts up to God.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERToday’s special prayer thanks God for fulfilling all God’s promises to us. What can you give special thanks for today?

THE LORD’S PRAYERAs the priest extends his hands, we say the prayer that Jesus taught us.

COMMUNION ANTIPHONChrist our Passover has been sacrificed, alleluia;therefore let us keep the feast with the unleavened breadof purity and truth, alleluia, alleluia.

MY PRAYER AFTER COMMUNIONDear Lord, on Easter Sunday your friends understood that you had risen from the dead. Help me to understand too, and to share the joy of your love this week. Amen.

“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good.”

Think about all people and the things that make you happy. Let joy fill your heart. Say a big thank you to God!

PRAY

Celebrate the joy of Easter by enjoying your chocolate eggs, playing a family game or having fun with friends!

DO

Listen to the reader as he or she encourages us to pray for situations and people in need. Here is a prayer you could say privately.

You are invited to sing a Communion song or say this verse, which has been especially chosen for today’s celebration.

We listen to the prayer of praise and thanks to God.

Watch as the gifts are made ready and the priest washes his hands and prepares for the Eucharistic Prayer.

is the Greek word for “fish” and was used in the catacombs as a sign for early Christians. It is made up from the first letter of five Greek titles for the Lord: I (Jesus) C (Christos) Q (Theou/God’s) U (Uios/Son) S (Soter/Saviour)

We take Jesus with us to carry onthe work that he did on earth,

until we meet again next Sunday.

Go in peace.
