This report summarizes the results and other information on a Smart Grid survey conducted by GlobalCom PR Network & CleanEnergy Project in July 2011 in Germany.

The survey with more than 1,000 participants delivering a total of 26,491 answers was conducted to provide information about perceptions, knowledge and needs relating to the development of Smart Grids and relevant criteria like industry standards or collaborations among stakeholders. The purpose of the survey is to leverage key findings for media and public relation purposes including press releases, creation of articles, media briefings, speaking engagements and generating media coverage.

GlobalCom PR-Network is a PR agency based in Munich specializing in Technology and Cleantech. CleanEnergy Project is a business network with over 33,000 members and part of GlobalCom PR-Network. It provides PR and social media services, an online magazine, newsletters, cleantech events, and online surveys.

93.4 % - the majority of participants associate Smart Grids with intelligent energy management, 61,7% with Smart Metering and 58,7% with lower energy consumptions (slide 8)

66,8% don’t feel informed enough (slide 11) and 82,2% are using the Internet, 63,9% the trade press as primary information sources (slide 11 +12)

74,9% of the participants believe that SG will result in a higher usage of renewable energy, i.e. a higher energy mix (slide 9).

63,4% believe that SG will help secure the energy supply (slide 9) and an overwhelming majority of 84% that Smart Grids are necessary to make the energy change happen (slide 15)

74% participants confirmed a high demand for industry standards, 56% political and 55% social will to enable essential infrastructures (slide 16)

» 1,006 members of CleanEnergy Project participated in this online survey and delivered

» 26,491 responses by answering to a questionnaire with

» 11 questions including

» 1 yes/no question and

» 10 multiple choices

» The average age of the participants in this survey is 37.5 years

» 50,2% = 31 and 45 years

» 24,3%,= 46 and 55 years

» Qualification of participants:

» More than 50% hold a final secondary school examination or higher education level

» More than 75% with a professional interest in energy and environmental topics

» Approx. 98,5% with an overall interest in energy & environmental topics
