There are no EVs that can service themselves

There are no EV service stations other than fast charge

Fast charge is not that fast and damages batteries

Fast charge puts additional strain on Energy distribution networks

How then to kickstart instant energy exchanges for EVs?

INTRODUCING THE EURO CARTRIDGE

Cars are different shapes and sizes, but there are enough commonalities in floorpan and suspension design to allow inclusion of an inbuilt energy cartridge exchange system.

Seen here is the first cartridge wherea car loaded and unloaded its own energy pack.

This cartridge was not suitablefor the majority of cars – it was too tall – but it was a start.

CONVERTING A PRODUCTION VEHICLE

A Rover Metro was fitted with a battery cartridge and inbuilt loaders - with slight modification to the floorpan.

This proved the concept thata cartridge system wouldfit into a small car – and ifit will fit into a small carit will fit into a bigger car.

THE CATRIDGE & LOADERSHere you can see theRover floorpan tunnel widening, the battery cartridge as a steel tray with frame and loading handles – and the front and rear loading mechanism.

This electric loading system used two motors and reduction boxes and a solenoid actuated pickup hook – exchanges took 80 seconds.

ENTER BLUEBIRD MARINE SYSTEMS BMS was formed in

2013, acquiring the Rover Metro chassis, minus bodywork seen on the left, now with a steel spaceframe.

BMS also absorbed the trademark, patent and cartridge IP design rights for forward improvement applications.

ENTER BLUEBIRD MARINE SYSTEMSChris Close joined the company in 2014 working with other team members to build the wooden buck for the Ecostar DC50 – based on standard Rover running gear.

This design is to house a 20kW/hr lithium battery pack – and use the universal Euro cartridge loading mechanism. BMS cannot afford to fit the new batteries. The project is thus on hold.

Customers&

Collaboration

Once the city sports car bodywork is complete, the aim is to interest the big car makers, sufficiently to want to take IP licenses to develop their own EV “Euro” Cartridge compatible models.

The carrot is the promise of an economical Euro Station and a possible Circular Economy – using batteries or fuel cells to use generated electricity as a store for sustainable transport & smart cities.

FACILITIES We have our own workshop and equipment to be able to complete the Ecostar DC50 at a fraction of the cost of other design houses or mainstream manufacturers. Investing in us is R&D money well spent.
