CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT

When coming together as a group it is expected that all information shared within the group stay confidential. This is a very important part of counseling. Trust goes hand-in-hand with counseling, this is why it’s my goal as a counselor to make sure the students who attend my group feel safe and trusted. My goal is to make sure students feel what they are sharing in each group session is completely confidential and stays within the members of the group. This goal will allow each student to full share any information they want to provide on the current topic and allow for a judgment free zone. There is only a certain a few circumstances when confidentiality will be broken in these sessions. These instances are when the student feels like they want to harm themselves or risk of harming others. It is required by law for the student’s protection that I must give up my rights to confidentiality.

Even though confidentially is extremely important in each session and should be taken very seriously it is not always guaranteed. I will stress the important of confidentiality to each student and to them as a group, but I cannot fully control what is said or goes on outside of group.

Furthermore, I will fully discuss confidentiality and its limitations with students during the first session.

Importance of groupIn this small group, students will focus on their troubles with bullying. Bullying, as defined by dictionary.com, is the use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants

When students become bullied or become the bullies themselves it takes a major told on their grades, home life, and personal life. These pressures may cause the student to act out or to retreat. They will typically stop doing daily activities they have once enjoyed and either engage in risky behavior or show they are interested in doing anything anymore.

This group will last for 6 sessions, and will include the same 6 students throughout the 6 sessions.

Additionally, the group will meet every other week for 30-45 minutes. Students will also meet individually with the counselor during weeks that the student does not have the group session.
