Economics Starting a Business Small Business Project 2015 Project Beginning Date: March 30, 2015 Presentation Dates: April 13-17, 2015 You will be forming a partnership with one other member of your class. Your partnership will be assigned a business to begin. In starting a business, it is necessary to calculate the costs that will be involved. Partners will need to make a spreadsheet to help calculate fixed costs and expected income. It will be necessary to contact friends, family members or local businesses to help determine these costs. Each business partnership will have a competitor in the same field. The goal of each business is to gain more customers than your competitor. Remember that you will be in direct competition with your competitor and some element of secrecy will be necessary. The partners will present their product to the customers (the class). The competitors will also present their product on the same day. Your presentation should be unique and interesting in order to gain the customers’ attention. Some of the ideas that you may want to include in your presentation are: Advertising Samples Special deals Business cards Frequent buyer cards Remember to be creative! You will be judged (graded) by the customers and the teacher on your presentation. They will also be determining if they would buy the product from you or your competition. The dates of the presentation will be April 13-17, 2015. The partnership spreadsheet is also due at this time. As always, as seniors it is expected that your projects are of the highest quality. It is advisable not to procrastinate on this project. Late presentations will not be allowed – even if you have an excused absence.
