Welcome!

Who and What is Slow Food?

The following is a quote from the Slow Food USA Website. We encourage you all

to visit www.slowfoodusa.org.

Care We preserve and share local foods and food cultures. We defend and advocate poli-

cies that promote holistic alternatives to the industrial system. Through tastings,

workshops and social opportunities, we explore and celebrate the Slow life.

Cultivate We develop leaders in communities who model joy and justice. We champion local,

culturally significant heritage foods, customs and recipes and bring these experiences

into farms, markets, restaurants and homes. We teach the next generation how to

grow, prepare and share food responsibly.

Connect Conviviality is central to our mission. We are a global community, connecting peo-

ple to the land and to each other through local projects, educational events, and

shared meals. We become catalysts for change by sharing the joy of Slow Food and

prioritizing wholesome living over convenience.

Our mission as an international grassroots membership organization is good, clean

and fair food for all.

Artist Statement - Marcy Brennan

For me, happiness is having a brush in my hand, paint on the palette and a canvas on the easel.

I live to paint! I think and breathe art. When I’m not painting or working, I’m looking at art

books, art magazines, art online or watching art instruction videos on YouTube. Isimply can’t

imagine not being able to go into my studio and paint something – whatever inspires me at the

time.

I am self-taught from the age of 18, beginning with a set of oils and brushes and a few Walter

Foster instruction books. I’ve taken various classes and workshops over the years, most re-

cently through Art Mundo in Ft. Pierce. I paint landscapes and still life in oils, abstracts in

acrylics and a variety of subjects in watercolor and ink.

Artists and Farms

Vera Mangold/ Kai Kai

Farm

From childhood in South Texas, Vera had a gift and love for drawing and painting. After raising her children and retiring from banking she now has more time for developing the fine art techniques of drawing and watercolor. Vera is primarily self-taught using art method books and self-study of the Masters. Her favorite subjects are boats, people and horses, integrated into landscapes, seascapes and archi-tecture painted en plein air (outside, on location). She is a member of Art Associates of Martin County and The Light-house Art Center in Tequesta. Vera can be contacted at [email protected] or 772-678-5088.

Nancy Smythe/Shadowood Farm Nancy Smythe's rich representational paintings are in collections worldwide. “Photography freezes a scene; my oils are an interpretation of that moment. I see myself as a keeper in a throwaway society, painting to provide a detailed perspective on our ever-changing world.” Graduating from Northwestern she studied under master artists. As Artist-in-Residence for 3 months in Bermuda she painted & exhibited in Georgia O’Keeffe’s residence. Smythe was among 19 artists granted a month-long Art-

ist’s Colony in Highland Beach. She was featured on Gray's Sporting Journal’s cover. Smythe is active in many phil-anthropic activities & is the leader

of Martin County En Plein Air.

West Palm Beach, FL 33412 561-422-9906

11 years ago JoJo Milano took the leap from fast paced city living as an advertising art direc-

tor, to a more wholesome 'simple' rural lifestyle. She quit her job, sold her house, packed up the horses and moved to Loxahatchee, Florida. Little did she know a couple of dairy goats

were in her future. She is now milking 11 does twice daily- her herd consists of purebred

Nubian and Lamancha dairy goats. Delilah's Dairy is a working suburban farmstead – selling

goat milk soap, eggs, cheese, raw milk, kefir and honey. This year adding 4 thriving bee hives

and an edible garden for the goats is in the planning stages. Come see how it 'simply' works

together. To learn more visit: www.goodnessgraciousacres.com 10:30am to 12:00am

facilities to give back to the community,” said Underwood.

The purpose of the Community Garden at The Borland Center is to appropriate

an unused land resource for the benefit of Palm Beach County’s needy by raising

vegetables for donation; to educate the community and particularly the youth

community about the process of planting, tending and harvesting food; an pro-

vide an opportunity for all residents of Palm Beach County to participate in com-

munity project for the benefit of those less fortunate. 12pm to 1:30

Abacoa Community Garden

1022 West Community Drive,

Jupiter, FL between Allegro and LifeSong Community

Church (west side of Central Boulevard).

In 2009 a small group of Abacoa residents got together to find a

place to start an organic garden to grow fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. Even with all that

Abacoa had to offer, a place to garden was lacking. With the help and support of the Abacoa

Property Owners’ Assembly, we finally found a home on the LifeSong Community Church

property. While the Abacoa Community Garden is a club under the Abacoa POA, garden

membership is not limited to Abacoa residents. Everyone is welcome and invited to join.

Our garden measures 120 by 60 feet. Half is for individuals

who wish to have their own plots and the other 14 plots is set

aside as a sharing / giving garden. We currently have 32enthusi-

astic members and growing. Since the garden’s inception, we

have consistently donated produce to several charitable

groups. Once a month we have children’s activities; the scare-

crows they’ve made each year are a delight.

harvest. 7am to 9am
