Bishops Hull Toddler GroupAlmost two years ago with the help of a grant from the Parish Council, Tilda Gibbs set up the group who meet at the Church Hall every Thursday morning in term time. With regular help volunteers Ellen, Mae, Dilys, Sam, Isabelle and Pat a good time is guaranteed for Mums and children alike. Large numbers attended originally and although still popular these have dwindled of late. The costs involved in running such a group mean that to continue to be viable new members are needed. So please Mums (and Dads), come along when sessions start again in September and see what a great welcome you will receive and how much fun you all can have.

Cricket World Cup Comes to the villageBishop’s Hull Cricket Club joined in the celebrations of the ICC World Cup with a fantastic evening of junior sport. On a beautiful sunny evening Friday 13th July saw the playing field thronging with people of all ages, coming together for a match between the village under 13’s and Broadway and Horton under 13’s. A sporting match between the 2 sides where 20 youngsters played the game in the spirit of fun and competition with our local team putting in an excellent winning performance. A BBQ was held throughout the evening and enjoyed by everyone. This was a celebration of the World Cup and as a consequence the Cricket club qualified for a grant of £1000 which they have been delighted to donate to the Village Hall and Playing Field Trust as a contribution towards the refurbishment of the old pavilion kitchen.
Bags of Money (Tesco)The Playing Field Trust qualified for the bags of money scheme run by Tesco in support of the pavilion project. We were selected to take part during May and June at all Tesco’s in the area. We had great support from residents and as a result finished second and qualified for a grant of £2000. Thanks to all those who contributed and voted with their coins!!
Taunton Flower Show 2019‘Absolutely Fabulous’, just about sums up this year’s event, held on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd August. Apart from a short shower on Saturday afternoon, the show was blessed with good weather and excellent crowds. I don’t have the final figures, however judging by the numbers arriving, particularly on the Friday, I’d say a record attendance for Taunton’s premier event seems likely. As many of you know, I’ve been volunteering at the show for a number of years now. My ‘job’ includes organising the visitor flow at the main (Town Gate) entrance on both mornings, moving over to the ‘Festival Village’ (Wilton Lands) area of Vivary Park in the afternoons, where I introduce performers onto the stage and generally help out where needed. My favourite area of the show is the Festival Village. A place where everyone can come and relax, have a much needed sit-down and enjoy the myriad of food, drink and superb musical entertainment available. From a personal point of view, it was two days of hard work, muscles aching in places I didn’t know I had them and sore feet, yet so very rewarding. Socialising is my ‘thing’ and throughout the two days, it was wonderful to bump into so many people from the past and present, including many of you. Good News! As you’ll no doubt be aware, there has been much talk of the show leaving Vivary Park, due in the main to costs imposed by the previous council. The encouraging news is that the new Somerset West & Taunton district council has indicated, that it’ll work with the directors of Taunton Flower Show to ensure that present and future generations are able to enjoy the show for years to come. Finally, I’d like to say a huge well done to the Show directors and my fellow volunteers, for making Taunton Flower Show 2019 everything it should be, it was an absolute pleasure being part of the team.
