SLC Presents:The Experience ofAmbrosia Dance Club
Ambrosia Dance Club is in my opinion, one
of the finest on SL. Your tp point is the center
of Ambrosia Mall with a red carpet leading
the way to the club. You'll arrive to a warm
welcome by the lovely dancers and many
regulars. Owned by Phil Kearny, a lot of time
and effort went into making it the top
choice for SL clubbers and it shows! The club choice for SL clubbers and it shows! The club
is well designed, open and bright, with a
large dance floor and a well stocked bar
attended by a delicious bartender.
(Ladies!) Many comfy chairs are scattered
about for those who would rather sit and
chat.
Ambrosia Dance Club from country to death metal
DJ AxlBerkins
Ambrosia's music covers a wide range of interests, from country to death metal, and requests are
happily accepted by the various live DJs in attendance 24/7. Another great feature of Ambrosia is
the live acts it offers from talented artists around the world.
They participate fully with the audience with vocals and acoustics and you really get that "in con-
cert" feel.Ambrosia also has it's own website with blogs and commentaries,a calendar of events and
other articles of interest. See it at http://ambrosiadanceclub.com/.

COFFEE with DJ SAOAn Interview by Angelli Cisse
Here’s what went Down --->
I arrived early at Central Perk

est to the bar. I order a plate of
delectable biscuits, and two
coffees; one for myself, and
one for our guest of honor.
When Sao Tokyoska (DJ Sao)

with a magnificent presence;
the same one that he exuded
the first time I saw him spin.
Three black snake tongues
flickered from his mouth as he
offered a gracious hello. He
took a seat next to me, and took a seat next to me, and
after a few moments of chit
chat, here’s what went down.

part of my marketing.
SLC: Yeah, and I'm sure you leave that kind of impression with
people. So tell me, when and why did you start DJing in Second Life?

SLC: I notice the rose on your hand. You were
also wearing it when i saw you spin at 7th Ele-

DJ Sao: My first dream was to play in a club
called Dance Island. Miki Tiratzo (a friend of
mine) worked hard to help me get in. We
became very great friends and she was my in-
spiration. She died 2 weeks ago. The club owner

long with you. Lastly, I have to ask, what parts of SL annoy you?
DJ Sao: Hahaha. Well, I don’t appreciate someone who loves
drama. We don’t need to expand on every feeling we have, and
think the worst of everyone. And of course, I don’t like people
who want sex! Maniacs!

Having decided I wanted to look a little more realistic and more true to the person I am,
a friend recommended a visit to this store. I certainly was not disappointed.
Being your typical woman, I wanted to look my best and what a better place to begin

Also, we offer activities and amusement for our visitors and residents. So, you can enjoy the rest of
the sim and not only your home like if it was your home's garden. Giving also some amusement ac-

Am I my Av?SLC Philosophy
Since Vernor Vinge's “True Names” hit the sci-fi scene in 1981, the idea of
virtual worlds has captured our imagination. Through the writings of authors
like William Gibson and Neal Stephenson, we've been introduced to differ-
ent views of cyberspace, and with the advent of the systems inspired by
their writings, such as Second Life, we've gone from theory into early
practice.
While the technology and corporate involvement lag behind Gibson's Cy-
berspace or Stephenson's Metaverse, the social dynamics are all the more
complex.
William Gibson's Necromancer described cyberspace as: “the consensual
hallucination known as the matrix”, and the surface level of that apt phrase
has been realized – the sights, sounds, and interactions within SL grow ever
more convincing.
SLC PhilosophyAm I My Av? which type could you be?
Yet at a deeper level, we couldn't be farther from consensus on the meaning of our SL experience.
This holds true even in the most basic relationship within SL: that of the user to their avatar and to SL in
general.
SLC - april. 2010 56
approaches taken
The tourist: My avatar is out of the box. I'm here to look around a bit, and find out what all the hype is about.
The character: My avatar is a persona I have fun with. For me, SL is extended role play, and I don't take any of it too seriously – it's an escape from reality.
The experiment: My avatar allows me to do things I wouldn't dare in RL, and explore sides of myself safely and anonymously.
The extension: The extension: My avatar is an extension of my RL self, the equivalent of my digitized voice on the telephone. SL is a place I go, it just happens to be virtual.
The upload: Sometimes SL seems more real than RL. I can express myself more fully, connect with like-minded people, and am more comfortable in SL than RL.
The troll: My avatar is my conduit to mayhem, the equivalent of my anonymous pranks on the telephone. I like to see what sort of trouble I can stir up.
So next time you're having trouble understanding where another Av is coming from, So next time you're having trouble understanding where another Av is coming from, remember that they may be in a different world.

Protean Ponderings – Shapeshifting through Second Life
In the immortal words of Robert Anton Wilson: “Reality is what you can get away with”. The same applies to Second Life. There's something exquisite about an environment with such a host of subcultures, each with its own rules, taboos, vocabulary and activities.

You're hanging out in your favourite sim, chatting with friends or working with colleagues when all of a sudden things turn ugly. Within the space of a few messages, jokes have turned into accusations, and you've gone from relaxed to making a choice between fight and flight. If you find yourself stuck between verbal combatants, trying to defuse an explosive situ-ation – or caught in the sights of someone's rant, here's a guerrilla guide to virtual conflict reso-lution:
Rule 1: Don't feed the TrollsFirst: The rest of these strategies tend to work well with people interested in resolving conflict. If you've identified someone as a troll, or a drama-seeker, you and your friends may want to embrace the power of Mute.
Rule 2: Check in emotionallyA virtual environment can make it easy to forget the lack of nonverbal cues. Even if you think you know what's motivating someone, or how they're feeling, check it out with them if things are heated.
Rule 3: Use those IMsRule 3: Use those IMsIMs are a tremendous advantage to dealing with heated situations in SL. If you're trying to deal with two heated parties, a few words from a neutral third party via IM can help smooth things over. They can blow off some steam to you privately, and work out how to construc-tively communicate to the other person. If someone's blowing up at you, moving it to IM not only lets you handle the situation privately, it also deprives any Trolls or drama-seekers from the audience they're looking for.
Rule 4: Take a breathIf things start getting too intense, take time to cool off. You might count to ten before re-sponding, suggest postponing the discussion, or try dealing with it through notecards or email. The further from real-time, the more you and others can choose the right words.
What’s Love Got to do With It?By Khali Farspire
Welcome Dear Reader, you have joined the wonderful, entertaining, sometimes frustrating world that is Second Life (SL).
Whether you are new to SL or a long Whether you are new to SL or a long term resident, no two days are ever the same (unless you choose them to be), your creative talents can be set com-pletely free and you are able to indulge all of your passions.
Getting out there and meeting others, from all over the world, is an enlighten-ing experience, but this pastime comes with a warning, especially to those who are seeking love. Never, ever forget that behind the Avatar you meet, is a living, breathing human being with all the emotional frailties and faults that we see in each other everyday in the real world.
It is easy to be swept away by the romance and titillation offered in SL but try to keep a level head. I know of relationships here that are full of love and trust, but there are those that are also full of deception, misgivings and disas-ter. Let’s also add that there is a continuous stream of temptation that can sway even the most loyal of individuals. And yes, SL relationships can impact on those relationships we have in RL (I have seen it, time and again).

In recent years SL has begun to mould into a rare collection of limitless stories, a complex yet intriguing web of interpersonal relation-ships and of course, a platform in which staggering new heights of innovativeness is achieved, a safe haven for the wildest of imaginations to run free. I wanted to show-case SL in a different light, not only looking at the unique experience SL has to offer, but more importantly, the people that make SL the world it is now. Thus, SLCulture Magazine was born.
It started with just a small team of 5, and after the first team meeting was held on the 2nd of April, production of the magazine was officially underway. In the short span of 2 and a half weeks, we have managed to publish our first issue, which focuses on the people of SL: what they do and how they do it, giving them a chance to present their do it, giving them a chance to present their stories. Words cannot describe the gratitude I feel towards the team for their extraordi-nary patience and dedication to the magazine.
The magazine would never have gotten off its feet without such great team members and their visions. Special thanks go out to the 2 individuals who juggled far too much this issue just so that we could meet the deadline: Dhrax, our editor-in-chief, and An-gelli, our General Manager. I believe the magazine can only get better, especially magazine can only get better, especially with our growing team. Thank you for follow-ing us on this journey, so kick back, relax and enjoy the ride!

It is my belief that the goals and everything set It is my belief that the goals and everything set forth by this production is directly related to anything and everything we believe SL repre-sents to not only business owners, but especially the individuals.
I just want to thank you all for the opportunity to show you what can be possible here and also a big thank you to all who support our cause.
Thanks again,

When I am not snapping up photos or sort-ing things out for the magazine, I like to do a whole lot of nothing!
