Chairmans ChatterFinally the summer is here................The season started off well with a good slip in party that was well organised by Garin Cope, Sarah and Steve Benny,. I have a very good roman suit if anyone would like to hire one.The 1st lechlade of the year was also very good and well supported. 32 people turned up throughout the 2 days. There was lots of waterskiing, wakeboarding and bare footing etc. Tracey Grimes is now wake boarding even if it is only 1 way out the wake. Rob Jenkins is now deep start monocan now go race skiing and I will drive the F1 boat.Lyme Regis was a good start for the racing season

but the weather could have been better. 3 of our club members are broken already this season, Steve Benny who had a bad unfortunate fall at Lyme Regis national, Garin cope with a ripped muscle from slaloming at Lechlade lake and Pete Stacey in a 150 mph motorbike accident, so he told me at the bar. Wish them all the best and be back out on the water very soon.Looking forward to 3 more days at lechlade this month. Also there is a social and race weekend at Marnham, Nottingham. Hope to see you all there. So I will speak to you next month to update you on how everyone got on. Many thanks Your chairman

Slipping in party 2010The club held its annual slipping in party and Toga/Romans was the theme.Loads of old sheets were dragged out for the night and some bed linen was there as well. The venue was Georges newly refitted function room and I have to say I was impressed with the new décor.

It was great to see club members old and new at the event with Steve Benny providing the disco and John the entertainment in the form of a Roman Centurion dancing like Travolta! There was a good turnout with

loads of fancy dress on show, much alcohol was consumed (if only by myself!) and the food on offer was a great Chilli! (I had seconds (not unusual!))I hope you all had a great evening, if you weren’t there you missed out. Please all support the next one. Coming soon.

With the sun coming out we all kicked off the start of the season with a 2 day trip to Lechlade Lake. It was a very good 2 days with 32 people coming

and going over the 2 days. This year we had a few upgrades which made going camping a home from home experience. Garin and co made an outside shower with its own cubicle. We had 3 boats there going round the lake. Everybody was relaxed and you could go out when you wanted you just had to persuade someone to drive for you while everyone else sunbathed. We had all ages of people from young to old. The kids played on the edge of the lake. There was lots of

waterskiing, wakeboarding, knee b o a r d i n g a n d messing around on the toys, being flung from them at any speed from 20-50 mph. There were very experienced skiers seeing how

far they could push their skis and them-selves to the limits. Also there were peo-ple learning to ski with Wendy and Tracey seeing who could get

up on mono 1st and Wendy Pritchard did very well. Also Karen Whitehouse did very well and got up above the wa-ter. After a hard day skiing some people got to experience Garin’s en suite followed by BBQ for some, pub for others. At the end of the night everyone sat round the bonfire having a nice chat a few drinks, listening to music and toasting marshmallows under the stars. The final day everyone jumped back in the water and did

more waterskiing. It was a good 2 days with the Weston ski club peeps and Nor-folk gang. So we hope to see you all there on June 14th-16th. Come and join in the fun.

Bear Grimes’ Somerset 3 peaksFinally the sun is here and with many people dusting the cobwebs off their boats and braving the cold waters.

A few of us decided to climb the 3 peaks.

We started our walk at crooks peak where we walked to the top which was 740ft.

A f te r t h i s we wa l k e d Winscombe hill which was 850 ft.

Our final peak was Brent knoll hill which was 650ft. All together the walk was about 8 miles.

The weather was perfect and the climbs were good, even though when the first of the hills was completed everyones spirits picked up before realising we had an-other 2 to complete! All in all it was a good morning and we will be organising more family events like this and would love for more people to come and join us and it’s a great way of keeping fit. Tracey

Lyme Regis & Alhallows RacesWell the race season has started with the 1st race being Lyme Regis. The weather was a bit cold. Lots

of people turned up to the race with many going down Friday night. Racers from all over England turned up in their campers. The water-ski race was on Saturday which was nice as everyone could let their hair down for the party Saturday night. The 1st race was the main race which was a very good race but bit choppy and then support race was a good race with 3 Weston ski club racers in it who all skied very well, unfortunately Steve Benny had a fall but he is on the mend now. John grimes came 4finished Lyme threw a good party for everyone. John grimes’

grand daughter got to the dance floor 1st with her friends and gave her granddad a dance for his money. John grimes had a sweat on! lol. All in all it was a very good weekend. Allhallows was the next race with people arriving on the Friday night. it was a cold weekend at Allhallows but no one let the weather dampen there weekend as Friday night everyone got together and had 1 or 2 maybe 10 drinks and when the bar shut at 12 it was promptly re opened till 2 then the party carried on back at campers with people getting into bed at 5 am. Saturday was a good day with people recovering or shopping. Saturday night some people had an early night while others were out till 2. Unfortunately Allhallows was cancelled on the Sunday due to bad weather.

Socials 2010 Its Garin again to tell you lot all about what going on in the coming months. I told you last time I was going to put together a more comprehensive social calendar in this issue of the skiline. Well I lied. I would like to say a big thank you to all those who came to the slipping in party which I think we all agree was a great night. Next we all went off to the lake in Lechlade where we had a great two days with lots of sun and no wind. That’s apart from the wind around the fire on Monday night (it was the beans) There should be a more detailed account of our trip to the lake by the lovely Tracy. We are yet to sort out the social event for later in the year so what below will do for now. We are having a club meeting on Thursday the 3rd of June where we will sort out the events for July August & September. I will be posting all the events and dates on the notice board in the Pav. So keep your eyes on it. As you can see below the next big one is the trip to Lechlade So Get Your selves Down There and Have A Great Time. 5th & 6th June There all off racing at Hunstanton so we can all have fun on the water with-

out them on this weekend. Good luck all you Weston skiers. 12th & 13th June it’s the Marnham weekend so fun fun fun I hope. All are welcome to come

and watch. If you can’t make it we all hope you have a nice weekend in Weston bay skiing.

14th 15th & 16th June It lechlade again the best place in the hole world to ski so you should

be getting yourselves down there with us. 19th June it was going to be are race day but as we all know the sea front will still be a

mess. But we are going to try and have a fancy dress boating event. We had one of these two years ago and it went very well. I have invited the Lyme lot down for this one as they won’t be doing a lot that weekend. There might be a price and cup for the best turned out boat and crew.

26th & 27th June Free weekend for all of us none racing lot. There all off to the Diamond

Race in Belgium. Good luck for anyone who is taking part in that one. 3rd & 4th July It’s another Race weekend but this one is in Brixham so come on down for

what is normally a great weekend. If you’re willing to do some Safety boat-ing you may be able to bring your boat with you as well. Please contact my-self if you would be up for that.

That will do for now. I would like you all to try and take part in as many of the events as you can. Feel free to bring your friend with you. If you would like any more information or feel you would like to help out on any of the events above Please contact Garin on 07836779510. Let’s all make it the best year ever out there on the water and in the bar.
