CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The month of May is the month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, and it is the occasion for a moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world pray to the Queen of Heaven.

During this month Christians, both in church and in the pri-vacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an es-pecially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God’s mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance (Paul VI: Encycli-cal on the Month of May, no. 1). In our observance of the Marian month we encourage you to do some of the fol-lowing to celebrate the month of May: • Bring fresh flowers to adorn our statue of Mary • Light a candle at Mary’s Altar • Pray a Novena to Our Lady • Look up and learn about a new Marian Devotion • Memorize a Marian Prayer • Pray the Rosary • Get and wear a Miraculous Medal (Our Lady promised

St. Catherine of Laboure great graces to those who wear this medal)

• Read a book about Mary Pope Paul VI goes on to say that May is an opportune time to let our petitions fly to Our Lady – especially for the needs of the Church and the whole human race – that most urgently require our Blessed Mother’s intercession.

FUNERALS HEALING MASS Monday, June 17 at 7:30 pm Presider: Fr. Christopher Felix

Fr. Christopher Felix is the current Administrator at St Linus Church. He is the eldest son of a family of 11 children. Born in Mission Hills, and received his BA degree in Theology from Ave Maria University, and a Master’s Degree of Arts in Spiritual-ity and Master of Divinity from St. John's Seminary. He was a former teacher at Alemany High School before answering the call of the Holy Spirit to enter the priesthood. Growing up in a big family was without its share of issues and struggles but Fr. Felix shares in his homily how the Lord, in faith of His providential care, ceases to amaze God's pouring of blessings and care to his family. Fr. Chris is drawn to Mary's fiat of "Thy will be done" and maintains an intimate relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, nourished by the Word and Sacraments in his service to God's people.

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION BABY SHOWER! Please continue to pray! The babies are counting on us.

For 9 months you have been showering these precious ba-bies with prayers, that their mothers may find the courage and grace to say “YES” to Life for them! This past Mother’s Day, we hosted a baby shower and collected a literal truck load of gifts for our Spiritually Adopted babies. Thank you to all who gave so generously! We gifted all these much-needed baby essentials to V.O.T.I. Pregnancy Center in Downey, CA. They were truly overwhelmed with gratitude.

We would also like to thank Lucky Treats Bakery for the beautiful cake they provided for our Baby Shower.

Please call Barbra Manriquez at (562) 354-3390 or email us at: [email protected] with any questions or to be added to our email list. Follow us on at St. Linus Pro Life Ministry.

Danny & Betty’s 50th Wedding Anniversary

We would like to congratulate Danny and Betty Toscano on their 50th Wed-ding Anniversary. Danny and Betty were married on May 24th 1969 at Holy Family Catholic church in Wilmington, CA. As soon as they were married, they moved to Cerritos, CA, where they currently reside. They have been blessed with eight children and nine grandchildren. Danny and Betty have been parishioners of St. Linus since 1974. All eight of their children have attended St. Linus School. They are a blessing to their family and to everyone they meet. May God continue to fill their lives with more love and happiness always.

MEMORIAL DAY

We remember all those who have given their lives to defend the truths that our great nation holds to be self-evident. The truth that all men and women are created equal. The truth that we are all chil-dren of one God, en-dowed by our Creator with inalienable rights — to life, to lib-erty and to the pursuit of happiness. The men and women we remember today died defending these truths. They died in fields of war for you and for me — so that we could gather this morn-ing in peace and in freedom. We owe them a great debt for their self-sacrifice, for their love. Jesus said that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend. The men and women we remember today were people of great love. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. It is also a day to keep alive the life and memory of so many men and women, who unselfishly gave their lives for our country. They were not thinking about themselves as they went off to fight for their country. They were thinking about their families. They were thinking about the ideals of this country and their duty as faith-ful citizens. These brave men and women trusted in God. They made God their refuge and fortress. And we know that our God is the God of the living. And we know that if we have died with Christ in baptism, so we shall live with him in the resurrection. So, we ask our good God today raise up in joy all those who have died in our Armed Forces. So, we also pray for all those men and women who are serving our country and are in harm’s way today. We pray for wisdom for our leaders and for integ-rity for our citizens. We pray for the innocent victims of war. And we pray for a just and lasting peace — for our nation and for every other nation, through the mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord. Not everyone is called to military service. But our Chris-tian faith calls each one of us to be ―peacemakers, to help bring harmony, justice and peace to our world. The God we serve is the God of love and peace. Our God calls us to always seek the ways that make for peace. We honor the memory of those who have fallen by trying to live better lives. By trying to be better peacemakers. Let us honor their memory by trying harder with the grace of God — to love more, to be less selfish. Let us try to give more importance to God and to others than we do to ourselves. Let us resolve each day to try to make life a little better for someone else. Let us make more time to pray or to do small works of service for someone who is close to us. Let us try with his grace to become people of forgiveness, and to rely more on God’s mercy. These little things make a big difference in the lives of others. And the more we spread peace in our own lives, the more peace is spread in the world. Let us remember today that the words we pray before every Holy Communion: ―Lord, I am not worthy …are the words of faith that a Roman soldier spoke to Jesus in the Gospel. As we remember the faith of those who have died serving our country, let us seek to grow in that same humble faith in Jesus Christ.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN

DID YOU KNOW Ongoing child sexual abuse pre-vention training Since 2002, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has trained about 330,000 adults to proactively protect children and young people from child sexual

abuse and reporting misconduct. In addition, over 165,000 chil-dren and young people receive safe environment training annu-ally. In 2018, the Office of Safeguard the Children launched its new “Empowering God's Children & Young People” Program, which empowers children and young people by giving them the knowledge and tools to keep themselves safe and teaches them to tell a parent, guardian or safe adult if anyone makes them feel uncomfortable, scared or confuse. that money can be fraudulently obtained. Perpetrators use various techniques to gain the trust of a victim and may provide specific instructions, which if followed, could result in monetary loss to the victim. Perpetrators may impersonate someone you know that is in some position of authority (a priest, teacher, manager, police, or govern-ment agency). DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM. If you receive such texts do the following: •Take time to consider your actions before responding to suspicious text messages. •If in doubt, call the published main number of the parish, school or administrative office from whom the text claims to have been sent to authenticate the text message. •Do not respond to the text message if you doubt its origin. For more information, and to stay up to date about the latest cyber security threats impacting ADLA locations, visit the ADLA website or https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/scam-alerts

Tell your State Senator to vote “NO” on SB 360 The Bishops of California are urging Catholics to

oppose SB 360, a California bill that seeks to force priests to disclose information heard in the sacrament of confes-sion. We know that can never happen. Priests will never disclose what they hear in confession. We are asking all Catholics to tell your state Senators that we oppose the government interfering in our right to practice our faith. You are asked to call your CA Senator to oppose SB 360. See the Archdiocese website for more information at: www.la-archdiocese.org Call your CA Senator today. Pida a su senador estatal que vote "NO" en SB 360
