Ft. Pierre Knights of Columbus News:

Consider joining your local KC council and help your priest, parish and

community in many ways. Membership is open to all Catholic men

18 years and older; all are invited to consider joining.

Contact any Knight or call Tom LeFaive at 280-7865.

The KC’s call us to pray for our nation - comfort for those who mourn, and

mercy in place of violence - in novena from July 14-22:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon:

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope

where there is darkness, light

where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Our next parish Day of Mercy is Tuesday, July 19th.

5:30pm Mass, 6 pot luck dinner, 6:30 Learning of St. Damien of Hawaii

Pope Francis on World Youth Day 2016:

Dear young people, at the Shrine in Kra-kow dedicated to the merciful Jesus, where he is depicted in the image vener-ated by the people of God, Jesus is wait-ing for you. Pope Francis asked youth choose a corporal and a spiritual work of mercy to practice each month and to find inspiration in the prayer of Saint Faustina, a

humble apostle of Divine Mercy in our times:

“Help me, O Lord, …that my eyes may be merciful, so that I will never be suspicious or judge by appearances, but always look for what is beautiful in my neighbors' souls and be of help to them; … that my ears may be merciful, so that I will be attentive to my neighbors' needs, and not indifferent to their pains and complaints; … that my tongue may be merciful, so that I will never speak badly of others, but have a word of comfort and forgiveness for all; … that my hands may be merciful and full of good deeds; … that my feet may be merciful, so that I will hasten to help my neighbor, despite my own fatigue and weariness; … that my heart may be merciful, so that I myself will share in all the

sufferings of my neighbor” (Diary, 163).

God Bless our Soldiers: Heavenly Father, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their fami-lies for the selfless acts they perform for us in this our time of need. Please bless and heal those who come back to us wounded in body or spirit and give them peace. I humbly ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.”

Nick Marbach is in San Diego, California for Marine basic training.

School begins August 24 and that is not far away! The St. Joseph staff is truly looking forward to an outstanding year. Thanks to the dedicated families and a very generous parish we can boast about providing an excellent aca-demic and faith-based education to so many children for the past 57 years. Providing an education that prepares our children for the future is getting more expensive. Home and School Association hired a strategic planner to assist with creating a plan to ensure that St. Joseph School will still be in exist-ence for many years. An essential part of this plan will be to continue to attract and retain outstanding teachers and the School Council decided to raise teachers’ salaries so they are comparable to the public schools in this area which required a substantial increase in tuition. For 2016/2017 the cost to educate a child is $4600. Thanks to SS Peter and Paul Parish’s generosity the tuition rates are reduced to $2100 for SS Peter and Paul families; $2300 for families from other Catholic parishes and $2800 for families of other faiths. Please know, the SJS Council is committed to the principle that no child will ever be refused attendance because of inability to pay. In order to plan for the needs of our families EVERY SJS family is asked to return the School Tuition Contract to the office/school by July 22.

Thank you for your donation to the Southeast Pierre Neighborhood Sack Lunch Program. After you served the Banquet on Thursday night, you left the cookies, buns and fresh fruit for the sack lunch program on Friday. We were able to put one cup of fresh fruit in each of the 82 lunches, a cookie and a bun to go with the Mac & Cheese that was included. You made it a delicious lunch for the kids!

Five days a week, adult and youth volunteers arrive each morning to prepare 80+ sack lunches for the neighborhood kids. Each lunch includes a sandwich (peanut butter & jelly or ham & cheese or a hard boiled egg with bread), fresh fruit, chocolate milk or juice, and a cookie. The lunches are delivered to the kids most of whom live on Sully Street between the soccer field close to the PILC and Harrison.

We have delivered 2,272 lunches during the first 6 weeks and will deliver for 7 more weeks. We watch in awe as God provides donations and volunteers.” Gerry Cass, Volunteer, Southeast Pierre Community Center

St. John the Evangelist Invites All Children to Cave Quest Vacation Bible School:

Following Jesus, the Light of the World!

Our summer kids’ event, VBS, will be this Monday, July 18th to Friday, July 22nd

here at St. John’s.

At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Kids participate in

memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig

into yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to

remind them of Jesus’ love, and test out Science-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all

summer long.

Kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings.

Each day concludes with a Cave Quest Closing that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve

learned. Family members and friends are encouraged to join in daily for this special time at 11:45 pm.

Cave Quest is ages 5 to age 11 (K to 5th

grade) and will run 9:00 am to 12:00 noon each day.

You can bring them Monday

and register then if you

haven’t done so.

Called and Gifted Workshop: What is your charism? Charism: an extraordinary power (as of healing) given by the Holy Spirit for the good of the church. Find out at the Called & Gifted Workshop Friday, July 22, 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, July 23, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Cathedral Hall. It is a workshop meant to help lay Catholics discern the unique work of love to which God is calling them and to dis-cover how God has empowered them to carry it out. Why should I attend? Because Christ is calling you; Christ needs you to bring his love to others in a way only you can do. No one else has your particular background, experience, gifts, and connections. No one else can take your place. To register sign up on our OLPH webpage: http://www.cathedralolph.org/#!called-and-gifted/luzvt.
