Thank you for taking a moment to learn about my website, SistersSpace.com. In reading my latest book selection, When and Where I Enter by SisterAuthor Paula Giddings, I realized more than ever why sisterhood among Black women is so important. When notable Women’s suffrage leaders like Susan B. Anthony were denying Black Women a voice during conventions and meetings, it was the collective actions of women like Ida B. Wells and Mary Church Terrell that forced white women to stand up and take notice of the unique needs of Black Women. I created SistersSpace with the ultimate goal of forging a true, tangible spirit of sisterhood among Black Women around the world. I did this because, just as sisterhood was needed in the days of Sister Wells and Sister Terrell, it is just as critical today. I have known of very capable Sisters who were passed over for career advancement oppor-tunities and told, “you’re just not ready yet.” There are countless stories of Sisters who have shopped their film or product ideas around, only to be rejected and find their work or product in a theatre or Walmart nearby. Through the growing portfolio of products and services offered by SistersSpace, I desire to create a place where Sisters of all ages and geographic locations can be nourished, encouraged, and equipped with whatever tools they need to achieve their dreams. While there are not nearly enough Sisters in positions of national prominence or discretionary authority, those of us who are in these positions have an added responsibility. We must “make the way straight” for other Sisters so that, when our time has come and gone, we can look back and see the echoes of our efforts. It is this strong belief that guides everything I do for the website and my members. The essence of our Sisterhood is found in the innumerable opportunities that have been denied to us, but the immeasurable power to progress that lies within us. Collectively, the Black Sisterhood is unstoppable and it is my mission that SistersSpace be the vehicle through which Black Women realize just how powerful they are.

Yours in Sisterhood,

The Essence of Sisterhood

Website is the Fastest Growing Online Community for Black Women

Gainesville, FL- Since being launched in mid-September, SistersSpace.com has emerged as the fastest grow-ing online community for Black women, acting as the online hub for almost 2,000 members around the world. The website was created in recognition of the need for a place where Black Women are being cele-brated, encouraged, educated, and inspired while promoting collectiveness and sisterhood.

“I was doing a Google search for images using the search term ‘Black Women’ and what came up was ap-palling,” says 26 year-old SistersSpace.com Founder, Nona C. Jones. “Pages of results depicted Black women in g-strings or provocative poses. I said to myself, ‘There is so much more to the Black Woman than these images suggest.’ SistersSpace was born after that moment.”

SistersSpace is unlike other social networks on the internet today because it provides more than just op-portunities to network and make friends. SistersSpace has its own career network called “SisterJobs,” a fitness program called “The SistersSpace Body Challenge,” and an international book club called “SistersRead! Book Club.” With almost 50 different SisterGroups ranging from SisterMoms to Sister-Wives to SingleSisters to Financially Savvy Sisters and more, members connect on more levels than just the social.

SistersSpace also hosts a web-based talk show, The Nona Jones Show. This talk-show exclusively features interviews with the leading Black Women in all fields of endeavor. Guests have included Food Network personality Gina Neely, personal finance expert and New York Times bestselling author Lynette Khalfani-Cox, the first Black woman to graduate with a Harvard MBA, Lillian Lincoln Lambert, and career ad-vancement expert, Dr. Wendy London among many others.

As for the future, the young entrepreneur says, “SistersSpace has a vision equip Black women to achieve their dreams, whatever they may be. Due to overwhelming member feedback, we will host our first annual Sisterhood Conference in Atlanta, Georgia during the Summer of 2010. Not only will this give us an op-portunity to meet in person ladies we have become friends with through the internet, but it will give us an opportunity to leverage the power of our shared history and make a brighter future for our daughters.” “Ultimately, SistersSpace is the vehicle through which I intend to forge a true spirit of sisterhood among Black Women around the world.”

SistersSpace.com is the fastest growing online community for Black Women, offering opportunities for women to connect and sup-port one another while being educated, motivated, and inspired to live their best life. Founded in September 2008,

SistersSpace membership has grown exponentially and continues to steadily grow today!

Hi Nona. Thank you so much for creating this site. So often society has caused us to hate and envy one another, but through this site I believe that black women are going to be able to share, love, and console one another. They will also be able to strengthen one another when there is no one around but this site. Thank you again. God bless you and your family…-SisterMember Inez

I could only listen to the second half of “Sisters, Recession Proof Your Finances” on The Nona Jones Show, but I just want to say - Fabulous! Nona, I thank you for the vision and insight to share such powerful information with us. I think one of the most pertinent pieces of data shared in this episode was the use of self-discipline and restraint. -SisterMember Anntwanique

I truly enjoyed this interview. Mrs. Nona, job well done!!! I found myself taking down so many notes on my notepad while Lynnette passed on her valuable information. Nona, you asked spe-cific,detailed, and precise questions that I could benefit from. -SisterMember Lynn

“At 26-years old, Nona C. Jones is an author, speaker, entrepreneur, well-regarded community leader, minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and wife to a wonderful husband. People are often surprised by how much she has accomplished at such a young age. Yet, Nona credits Jesus Christ for every opportunity she has been afforded and takes none of her blessings for granted.

Nona is the founder of SistersSpace.com, the fastest growing online com-munity for Black women. The mission of SistersSpace is to foster a global spirit of Sisterhood among Black Women. Unlike other online social net-works, SistersSpace hosts an international book club featuring Sister au-thors, an international fitness club called “The SistersSpace Body Chal-lenge,” has its very own online career network and career consultation program, and will host its 1st Annual Sisterhood Conference in Atlanta, Georgia during the summer of 2010. The site also offers discussion fo-rums, videos, and more than 45 different SisterGroups, including Sister-Moms, SisterWives, Political Sisters, Single Sisters, SisterGreeks, Christian Sisters, Cookin’ Sisters, and Sisters for Literature.

Nona’s community leadership is extensive. Jones is a proud graduate of the Univer-sity of Florida, acquiring both a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Masters of Business Administration from the institution. Jones has also studied public relations and negotiation strategies with the Harvard Business School Executive Education series. She is married to Pastor Timothy L. Jones and they are the proud parents of two fun-loving Chihuahua’s named Honey-Bun and Bandit. Her life’s motto can be found in the words of Mary McLeod Bethune, addressing the National Council of Negro Women in 1940. Mrs. Bethune said, “"...we are not here to hold a position or to be the head of this, or that, or the other; we are here to mass our power and our thinking and our souls to see what we can do to make it better for that mass that can't speak out there. That is why we are here. I have no right to be here, but it is too much to give up."
