Please turn over.

12 November 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

Covid-19 including testing and plans for the vaccination of healthy 12 to 15 year olds,

home testing kits plus flu vaccinations, sixth form application round, bus route data

collection exercise, policy on keeping staff safe, health and wellbeing bulletin, colours

ties nominations, Year 11 and Year 13 intervention timetables

It has been an extremely busy week with planned theatre productions on site, the beginning of

year 13 mock examinations and a really awful road traffic accident. Our youngsters continue

to behave themselves well on site and are benefitting from the return to routines after half term.

Some important announcements below:

Covid-19 including testing and plans for the vaccination of healthy 12 to 15 year olds

plus flu vaccinations

We continue to encourage twice weekly testing at home on Wednesdays and Sundays using

home LFT kits. Next week, our second Covid-19 vaccination day will take place on 17

November for all healthy 12 to 15 year olds who have not yet received their jab and wish to.

Consent can continue to be given using the letter and code sent out before half term.

I can also confirm that the NHS SAIS team will be returning to the Academy on Monday 29

November to complete the outstanding flu vaccinations. The NHS SAIS team will manage all

consents and inform us the day before. If you have not done so already and wish to, please

contact the NHS SAIS team directly as previously communicated.

Sixth form application round

Our application round remains open until next Monday. Sixth form interviews will begin

immediately in order to complete them prior to Christmas.

For any further details regarding entry to the sixth form, please see our website under the Sixth

Form tab or email Mr Grifffiths at [email protected].

Bus route data collection exercise

You may have seen the headlines yesterday with regard to the 544 bus which tipped into a

ditch off Meadow Lane. I attended the scene with one of my senior leaders. Fortunately, this

incident ended better than the press headlines suggested and there were no really serious

injuries. However, this was just good luck. As part of our post-incident analysis, it has become

clear that some parents did not access the MS form we sent out early in the year in order to

update details regarding bus routes. It is because of incidents like this that we try to hold

updated data in this area. Please be good enough to update your child’s bus details with us

using this link if you have not already done so: https://forms.office.com/r/jEcJYfsJRs. Thank

you.

In relation to this incident I have spoken to the Managing Director of Stagecoach who I was

very impressed with. We have always found this partnership to be valuable and I expect that

this will continue after our exchange of views.

Policy on Keeping Staff Safe

We have implemented a new policy called ‘Keeping Staff Safe’ given the rise in abuse towards

colleagues that we have seen over the past two years. This has been ratified by our full

Governing Body. In the rare event that we need to instigate this policy it outlines the approach

that we may take if parents, visitors or contractors do not behave reasonably. The policy can

be found on our website under the About us/Policies tab. Thank you for your understanding

with this.

Health and Wellbeing bulletin

Please find attached our Health and Wellbeing bulletin for Term 2. I am sure you will find this

interesting and see the importance of us all keeping fit, particularly with the current situation

we all find ourselves in. Congratulations to all the staff members who completed the Lincoln

10K in appalling weather conditions, raising over £1000 for St Barnabas.

Colours Ties Nominations

It is that time in the term again when we ask for nominations for the above. If you wish to

nominate your child in any of the five disciplines (music, drama, sport, charity fundraising or

leadership in or out of school) then we would be happy to hear from you. Please email my PA,

Mrs Goffe, at [email protected].

Year 11 and Year 13 Intervention Timetables

Please find this attached with my letter to support students in the lead up to mock examinations

later this month.

“This is a calm, happy and caring school.”

As the mock examination season is upon us for Year 13 and Year 11 is just around the corner

I wanted to find a quote which accurately sums up the seasonal challenges ahead. Thomas

Eddison once said “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and

looks like work.”

It is never too late to ‘get your hands dirty’ and make real progress in your learning.

Have a lovely weekend when it comes.

I will write again soon.

Yours faithfully

Mr D Hardy

We hope that this bulletin will promote health and well-being; raise awareness of key factors relating to health and well-being and celebrate our students’ achievements in this area. We also aim to highlight opportunities for students to get involved in activities that will promote and develop health and wellbeing.

Welcome back to term 2.

Term 2 2021-2022

No matter what your age or shape you should exercise daily. Not only does exercise tone your

body and strengthen your muscles it keeps your bones strong and improves your skin. There are

more benefits of exercise -- increased relaxation, better sleep and mood, strong immune function,

and more.

@srpartandtechnology This week has seen the return of our

wonderful Gourmet Group. This is open

to Year 9 students until the end of

January, when it will switch to Year 8.

The group were busy making soda

bread and spicy tomato soup with all

having wonderful creations.

Many of us will be going pumpkin picking and

carving out some lovely designs to display. Here

are some suggestions to prevent filling up your

bins with unnecessary waste.

Keep the seeds and grow your own pumpkins

next year.

Aside from the usual soup recipes, add some

pumpkin puree to a brownie recipe and see how

lovely and moist it makes them.

Why not try something different like this delicious

recipe?

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Base - 80g butter, melted 275g digestive biscuits or ginger nuts, crushed. 1 egg white Filling - 800g full fat soft cheese. 425g pumpkin puree 200g light brown soft sugar 50g plain flour 5 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk Serve – 400ml whipping cream Ground cinnamon 25g chopped pecans 3 tablespoon caramel sauce

Pumpkin season

Step 1 – heat the oven to 200ᵒC. Butter a deep 22cm loose-bottomed cake tin and line with baking parchment. Wrap

the base and side of the tin with 3 layers of cling film, followed by 3 layers of foil (this helps keep it waterproof during

baking). Fold a clean tea towel and put it in the base of a large roasting tin.

Step 2 – Blitz the biscuits to crumbs in a food processor. Add the melted butter and pulse to coat the crumbs. Tip

the mixture into the prepared cake tin, spreading up to the side and pressing down with the back of a spoon. Bake for

10 minutes. Remove from the oven, brush with the egg white and bake for another 3 minutes (this will stop the base

from becoming soggy).

Step 3 – to make the filling, put the soft cheese in a bowl of a stand mixer, and beat with an electric whisk until

loosened. Add the pumpkin puree, sugar and flour and beat again until combined. With the motor running, gradually

add the eggs and egg yolk until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Pour the filling over the baked biscuit base, then

sit the cake tin on the tea towel in the roasting tin. Pour a kettle of just boiled water into the roasting tin so the water

comes halfway up the side of the cake tin.

Step 4 – Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 90ᵒC and bake for a further 1hr30mins until the

cheesecake is set with a slight wobble. Leave to cool in the oven with door open for 2 hours, then chill overnight.

Step 5 – Carefully remove the cold cheesecake from the tin to a cake stand. Spoon whipped cream over the

cheesecake and dust with cinnamon. Sprinkle chopped pecans and drizzle caramel sauce before serving.

SRPA are passionate about helping those in our community. The RP-HUB was set up in conjunction with the Bromhead Medical Charity to support those with mental health issues. The need to address the rise in mental health related issues across the country has accelerated in recent years, notwithstanding North Hykeham. We want to ensure we are doing everything we can to help those within our community to be healthy and happy. That is why we decided to set up a unique, flagship programme for mental health support, here at Sir Robert Pattinson Academy. Visit https://srpa.co.uk/students/rp-
