Me to We foundation is making great impact for children and families around the world. It is with your help that we were able to contribute to that difference through the various projects our team chose to focus on this year. From attending We Day in September we were inspired to really make the world a better place through our actions. Whether you have donated food, sent toonies for Terry, bought cupcakes, donated batteries,

planted trees/clean up trails, weeding, or other initiatives, you have helped. The Me to We Leaders and staff would like to send a big THANK YOU to all our students, families, and staff for their generosity and dedication to global change! Together we collected $450 from our Rafiki sales and the money is been donated to support education in Sierra Leonne. From our Bake sale we raised $402 that will be used to support health care in India. We look forward to your support and commitment for the years ahead!

SIB Art Club

Earlier this year, the Art Club students at SIB created a collaborative artwork honouring the life of Canadian activist and musician, Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip, who sadly passed away from brain cancer in 2017. In Downie’s last year, he dedicated his time and passion to the First Nations people of Canada, co-creating an educational book, “The Secret Path”, telling the story of Chanie Wenjack and his attempted escape from a residential school in 1960's Canada. In honour of this initiative, the Downie/Wenjack Fund was created to support Truth and Reconciliation for the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. We decided, due to overwhelming response to our artwork on social media, that we at SIB would like to do a fundraiser and sell posters of this artwork to contribute funds for this cause. We are pleased to say that we sold 100 posters in a matter of 2 weeks, and we will happily be donating approximately $700 to this important foundation. We couldn’t be prouder of our SIB artists, and with pride, this artwork is travelling from the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to the Visual Voices show at The Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. The opening night is May 30th and we hope to see many of our students and their families there!

Peel Board Recognizes Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on June 12

What is an IPRC? IPRC stands for Identification, Placement and Review Committee. Each student is unique and has different needs when it comes to education. All students need the support of teachers, classmates, family and friends to succeed in the school environment, however, some students need more support and may be deemed exceptional. The IPRC is a formal process, governed by provincial law that is designed to help students get the special education assistance that they need. These committees do three main things: Determine if the student is exceptional and meets the criteria for identification under one of the five areas

of exceptionality. Consider and recommend the best placement to meet their needs Review the identification and placement yearly

You and your child are entitled to be a part of this process to ensure the right educational choices are made. Your child’s teacher or principal are a good starting point if you have any question about the IPRC. SEAC representatives can also help you understand the process and options available. For detailed information see the link to “A Parent’s Guide to IPRC” at www.peelschools.org/parents/specialed/iprc.

On the Road Again—How to Keep Your Cyclist Safe Here are some tips you can review with your child to ensure bike season gets off to a great start: The right fit children should be able to straddle the bike with both feet on the ground a bike that is too big or too small can be a safety hazard the helmet should fit—if it's too loose, it could fall

off, if it's too tight, it's uncomfortable Get noticed a young child's bike should be equipped with a bell and reflector older riders should have a light and/or

reflectors Follow the rules

no riding on busy streets no riding at night stop for all STOP signs Actions that cause injuries driveway ride out—not stopping and looking both ways before

entering the street running the stop sign

turning without warning cycling in the dark following the leader—one child goes through a stop sign or misses a parked car but the second cyclist

doesn't
