SIP Trunking using the EdgeMarc Network Services Gateway and the Avaya IP Office PBX
Goal
The purpose of this knowledgebase solution is to describe the steps needed to configure the Avaya IP Office IP PBX for proper operation in a SIP Trunking application. Please note that this solution documents the basic configuration needed in the PBX and that the requirements of your specific SIP Trunking environment may require modifications to the configuration steps provided in this document.
Prerequisites
SIP Trunking information provided by the VoIP service provider:
SIP proxy server IP address or DNS name.
Trunking Direct Inward Dial (DID) phone numbers o Calls to the Trunking DID(s) are forwarded from the service provider to the
wide area network (WAN) IP address of the EdgeMarc. There may be a single “Pilot” phone number used for all inbound calls and/or multiple DIDs depending on the service ordered.
SIP authentication credentials (optional) o Some SIP Trunking service providers require a unique username and
password to be supplied for IP PBX registrations and/or SIP signaling using P-Asserted Identity (RFC 3325). This knowledgebase solution provides the configuration steps for both PBX registration and static or non-registration modes of PBX operation.

Avaya IP Office Configuration
The steps below describe the minimum configuration required to enable the Avaya IP Office PBX to use a SIP trunk for inbound and outbound calling. Please refer to the Avaya IP Office product documentation for more information on SIP Trunking or other advanced PBX features. The configuration described here assumes that the Avaya IP office is already configured and operational with station side phones using assigned extensions or DIDs. This configuration is based on Avaya IP Office version R8.
1. Start the IP Office Manager software application from a PC that is connected to the IP Office PBX.
2. Select “File - open configuration” and choose the appropriate PBX configuration file.
3. Login to the IP Office PBX. The default login is “Administrator” and the default password is “Administrator”. The initial screen defaults to the User Configuration screen.

8. Select “Avaya Short Code” to create a dial code that will be used to represent outbound calls using the SIP trunk. In this example, the Avaya IP Office is being configured so that PBX users can dial the digit “9” to place an outbound call using the SIP trunk. Your desired method for outbound calling may differ however it should have an associated Short Code that will be referenced later in the configuration.

9. Select “User” to configure caller ID for outbound calls. a. Select the extension (one at a time). b. Select “SIP” tab. c. For static IP address mode, set the extension’s “SIP Name”, “SIP Display
Name” and “Contact” fields to the extension’s assigned DID. This will allow each extension’s assigned DID, pilot or non-pilot, to be used as caller ID.
d. For SIP registration mode, set the extension’s “SIP Name” and “Contact” fields to be the same as the User ID used for SIP registration and set the “SIP Display Name” to the extension’s assigned DID. Note that EdgeMarc will accept outbound calls only when the outbound call’s caller ID is the same as the User ID. After that, EdgeMarc will relay the call with the pilot DID as the caller ID.

10. Select “ARS” to create the dial plan for outbound calls. a. Select “Main”. b. Set “Line Group ID” equal to “0” to instruct the Avaya IP Office to use the SIP
trunk for dial strings that match the Short Code dial patterns.

11. Select “License”. Ensure that the licensed number of concurrent calls in the Avaya IP Office matches the number of trunks you have ordered from your SIP Trunking service provider. Each SIP Trunk Channels line represents a single concurrent call. The example below shows a license for up to a maximum of three (3) concurrent calls.
