Welcome to the April Newslet- ter of Singleton Soccer Club. Season 2012 got underway with away games at Cessnock and Youth Grade picked up a convincing opening round win with a 4-0 victory. Ryan Gui- hots’ coaching debut in U23’s also went well with reggies earning a 1-1 draw which many observers felt they were unlucky to lose. Unfortunately, First Grade were far from their best and got hammered 1-5. Points have been hard to come by since then for all the Grade sides, despite the marked im- provement in the Strikers form. April will see the start of some home games for the Strikers and hopefully with it a change of fortunes on the park. The 2012 grading has been released for the Over 35’s and the Singleton Storm. The Over 35’s have headed in different directions based on their results from season 2011—’D’ grade being pro- moted to ‘C’ grade, and ‘E’ grade being demoted to ‘F’ grade.....Yes.....F Troop is back. The Women’s All-Age team— the Storm—once again earned themselves promotion with a strong showing in 2011, but controversially they have skipped ’C’ grade and gone straight from ’D’ to ’B’ grade. This will be a stern test for both the girls, and their new coach Kevin Wandell. The draw for these teams is not available yet, but games are due to commence on Fri- day 20th April. Contribution to Sports Awards The Singleton Strikers are proud to announce that Brett Taylor and Cheryl Holland have been recognised for their contribution to Singleton Soc- cer Club in the recent Single- ton Sports Councils ‘Contribution to Sports’ Awards. Club President David Andrews said, “These awards are fair recognition for the tire- less efforts of both Brett and Cheryl, and it is pleasing that The Singleton Soccer Club is very proud to be involved with Player Development Spon- sor—Les Russell & Son Viatek, formerly Xerox Business centre, is in the business of im- proving the efficiency and perform- ance of other businesses via Man- aged Print Services, Office Auto- mation, Managed Communication Services, Telecommunications, and Managed IT Services. A team of volunteers was recruited by Mark Henderson, and with their help the day went smoothly. Many thanks to Club members Warren Gillespie, Duncan Mac- Dougal, Nat Hamilton, Todd Geddes, Jock Cameron & Phil Wright for their assistance, and in particular to Mark Henderson for pulling it all together. It is very pleasing that some of these guys have come up through the junior ranks into the senior Club, and is just another example of the close links be- tween the two Clubs.
