Sidq (Truthfulness)

MEANING OF SIDQ

Sidq means saying “sayings and actions” what is right and at the best of Someone’s knowledge.

Lie to cheat someone is strictly forbidden in Islam. The Holy Quran on many occasions abhors lying.

Sidq (Truthfulness)

MEANING OF SIDQ Truthfulness includes being truthful towards Allah by worshipping

Him sincerely; being truthful towards one’s own soul by making it adhere to the laws of Allah;

And being truthful with people in one's words and by keeping one's promises, and in dealings such as buying, selling and marriage, so there should be no deceiving, cheating, falsifying or withholding of information.

Thus a person should be the same on the inside and the outside

Sidq (Truthfulness)

SIDQ IN MANAGEMENT CONTEXT (Cont.)

Truthfulness is needed in speech, intention, resolution, fulfillment of resolution, action and in all stations on the path.

One is considered most truthful if he acquires truthfulness in all aspects mentioned above.

Truthfulness is the most important characteristic in Islamic value system.

It is not possible that someone is truthful at his workplace, but a liar in his personal life, or vice versa. One is either truthful or not truthful.

Sidq (Truthfulness)

Narrated by Abdullah: The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said, Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to

Paradise. And man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.

Sidq (Truthfulness)

AS ALLAH SAYS IN QUR’AN “The ALLAH may reward the truthful for their truthfulness, and punish

the Hypocrites if he wills, or turn mercifully towards them.” (Qur’an 33:24) “O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true

(in word and deeds).” (Al-Tawbah 9:119) “Those who are faithfully true to their amaanaat (all the duties which

Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts, etc.) and to their covenants.”

(Al-Mu’minoon 23:8)

Sidq (Truthfulness)

Our Prophet Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has so many times emphasized on this great quality.

He, himself is a big example of truthfulness and this is one of the reason of his popularity before the light of Islam. ALLAH also stated in Qur’an so many times about truthfulness.

Sidq (Truthfulness)

Truthfulness comes at the top of the list of morals and Allah considered it to be the foundation for all principles.

Truthfulness, besides being an honorable trait, is a necessity in all public lives and perhaps it’s the greatest gate to happiness of individuals and their entire communities.

For example: when one wishes to make a purchase, they will look for a salesperson that is known for their honesty. The most just and accurate scale of measuring a nation’s advancement is in the truthfulness of its people, whether in words or deeds.

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

MEANING OF SINCERITY:- Ikhlaas is an Arabic word for sincerity. The meaning of sincerity is “what the person says and his/her

actions should be for the sake of Allah (SWT) and not to show to the people or to be proud of himself or herself with them”.

Acceptance of deeds depends on sincerity. Sincerity to Allah (SWT) is a sign of the completeness of faith. Allah (SWT) looks into the heart and what is in it from intentions,

not to the appearance or the shape of the deeds.

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

SINCERITY IN THE MANAGEMENT CONTEXT:- Sincerity and keeping promise are the important principles of

Islamic management. One should fulfill his or her moral obligations with sincerity and

should keep the promises. Sincerity is shown in the way one performs a given task to the

best of one’s ability because such an attitude is the best way to show one’s loyalty and gratitude to, and love for the organization.

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

SINCERITY IN THE MANAGEMENT CONTEXT (cont.)

Employee’s loyalty is one of the major concerns among organizations. Reason is double, that is, either organizations are not groomed enough to take care of their employees or employees are not ethically groomed to value the organization.

In both cases, lack of value system in organizational culture is the reason of such crisis.

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

SINCERITY IN THE MANAGEMENT CONTEXT (cont.)

Sincerity is contagious; if there is sincerity in an organizational culture, then every stakeholder will act sincerely to increase the value of organizational operation. Sincere efforts lead to efficiency and efficiency leads to better performance of an individual.

Hence, sincerity tries to infuse a culture of trust, confidence truthfulness and cooperation among managers and subordinates.

Page 15: SINCERITY & TRUTHFULNESS

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

As The Holy Quran states, In serving the organization well, one serves Allah (al-Quran

39:14).

Also states “O you who believe! Fulfill (all) obligations”.

Page 16: SINCERITY & TRUTHFULNESS

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

Ikhlaas is so important that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “According to their level of ikhlaas, Muslims achieve their status.”

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was asked:“Which of the three persons carries on Jihad, one who fights for bravery and courage, one who fights tribalism or nationalism, or one who fights to be seen or to show off?"  The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص replied: "The one who fights to uphold the message of Allah is the person who carries on Jihad in the cause of Allah."

Ikhlaas (Sincerity)

The deeds, which the Muslims do, are not considered good unless they are done with good intentions and for the sake of Allah (SWT).  Only sincere people have the moral courage to criticize the leaders when they do wrong things.
