Pierce Plays With Pain WNFR Arena Record setter Carlee Pierce injured her knee in a gate incident. Pierce was riding a younger horse at a barrel race in the beginning of January and hit her leg on a solid pole. The inside of her leg, directly below her right knee, on the tibia, was injured. The outside of the bone is bruised but the inside of the bone was fractured. Directly after the injury, the NFR cowgirl competed at Denver even though she had very little range of motion in that leg. She is currently being treated by Dr. Tandy Freeman. Pierce is back up to 30% range of motion in her leg and is currently working on 4 weeks of physical therapy for 5 days a week. She will continue to compete in a knee brace until she is fully healed. While Pierce rehabilitates her knee, her mother, Danita Walker (who is also an equine massage therapist and works on Pierce’s horses throughout the year), will keep all her horses ridden and in shape so Pierce can just compete and rest.
New Saddle Pad Technology Innovative Impact Products L.L.C. developed Zoombang to protect against forces formerly impossible to guard against with traditional materials. Zoombang is a lightweight polymer material. It is soft, comfortable, and supportive at rest. But on impact, the ma-terial instantly changes to behave as an elastic solid, dissipating and transferring energy from blunt force trauma, shock, vibration, and outside g-forces. Zoombang provides unprecedented protection. It literally manages energy by dissipating and transferring it away from the body. Zoombang works to reduce injury and dramatically improve comfort for applications where protection is critical. Zoombang is widely used for its protection against injury in con-tact sports, medical applications, and hazardous work environments. Zoombang protective gear is used by every team in the NFL. The NHL, MLB, NASCAR, and other high profi le venues have found favor with the product for its ability to protect their elite athletes. For the past year, Innovative Impact Products L.L.C. has worked closely with Cowboy Armour and Classic Equine® to develop a material specially designed for applications used to protect equine athletes and keep them in the game. Hard, stiff materials such as PVC offer a reasonable degree of protection from impact, but they do not conform to the user and they are certainly not comfortable. Gels, open cell, and closed cell EVA foams provide comfort, but offer little protection against blunt force trauma. Zoombang performs as a viscous fl uid material at rest where it fl ows and conforms to the anatomy providing com-fort, cushioning, and support. However, the visco-elastic material instantly reacts to sudden sheer forces like shock. Upon impact, it changes to an elastic solid, dissipating energy and reacting directly in proportion to the amount of energy applied. Once the energy dis-sipates, the material instantly transforms back to its soft, semi-solid state.
In each new Zone series pad, a strategically placed, air vented Zoombang™ insert is surrounded by choice pad materials. Zone™ Series saddle pads are available in a Felt/Felt, Wool Top, Felt/Fleece and a Suede/Felt. Visit www.equibrand.com to learn more.

Rachel Alexandra Delivers Again 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra – the fi rst-ever 3-year-old fi lly to be named Horse of the Year – delivered her fi rst foal on January 22 at Stonestreet Farm, Lexington, Ky. The bay colt, owned by Stonestreet Farm and Harold McCormick, was sired by 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year Curlin. “Rachel is a natural mother and took to the colt immediately,” said Stonestreet Farm manager Gary Megibben. Rachel Alexandra made headlines in 2009, when she became the fi rst fi lly in 85 years to win the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. That same year she scored eight victories in eight starts, including fi ve Grade I stakes, three of which were against males, and earned the year’s highest Beyer Speed Figure of 116. The climax of her 3-year-old season came when Rachel Alex-andra won the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga against older male horses, in what many have called “one of the most courageous performances in modern racing.” The victory made her the fi rst 3-year-old fi lly to win a Grade I dirt route against older males in New York since Lady Primrose in 1887. Rachel Alexandra will be bred to 2006 champion 3-year-old Ber-nardini in 2012. --Courtesy of www.SallyHarrision.com

THE RUNDOWN: PEYTON GLENNHORSE: VF The Money Bandit “Bandit”2005 Black Gelding, 14.2 hands, 1,050 poundsOWNNER: Charles & Nita BrockHORSE HISTORY: My grandparents, Charles and Nita Brock, raised him, Charles Brock got him started on the barrels and trained him then sent him to Kay Young to run at futurities and derbies. He probably won $25k+ his futurity year as a 4 year old. His derby year he won about another $15k. Then he was just turned out at my grandparents house until I started riding him in the middle of last year (2011). VF The Money Bandit is a 3/4 brother to The Money Chaser, multiple big money winner with Ky Stierwalt. The Money Chaser is by On The Money Red who is the sire of Bandit’s sire Designer Red. I placed in the 1D over the weekend on the full sister (Danita Design) to Bandit as well. Every colt out of the dam, Bandit’s Best Gal, has been a winning barrel horse.BIT: O Ring with a dogboneHEADGEAR: Leather tiedownSADDLE: Carl Ammerman Barrel SaddleSADDLE PAD: Cactus Saddlery Wool Felt PadLEG GEAR: Classic Equine Legacy FEED: Bermudagrass hayHAY: AlfalfaSUPPLEMENTS: Empower, we make our own joint supplement.ADDITIONAL HORSE CARE: None, just basic stuff, just shod every 5 weeks. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I am 13 years old and in 7th grade. A couple years ago I got AQHYA Reserve World Champion in barrels and in 2011 I was in the Top 10 of Open AQHA World Show. A couple years ago I was in the Top 10 of the 1D at one of Booger Barter’s barrel races in Waco, TX. I won State Poles in the Oklahoma Junior High Division for 2011 and qualifi ed to the Nationals Junior High Division Finals Rodeo (NJHFR).TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT COMPETING WITH ADULTS: It’s not really any different to me, sometimes I get really nervous when I see all the big people there, but other than that I am pretty used to it. I just try to think that there is just a 1000 more of me at the barrel race. And usually before I run I sit in the corner, talk to my horse and focus on what we have to do. FUTURE PLANS: This year I want to make the National Junior High Finals in barrels as well as my other events, poles, goat tying, and ribbon roping.NOTES: Charles and Nita Brock are also the grandparents to 11 year old Parker Glenn. Both Parker and Peyton earned 1D checks at the D & G event.

Headin’ For HomeHeadin’ For Home by Mike Morrison by Mike Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries) Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)
God is not mad at you! He’s not hiding behind some cloud just waiting for a good time to “get” you. Remember God sent His only begotten Son to suffer and
die for us to undo the broken relationship with Him caused by Ad-am’s disobedience (John 3:16). God was all people to be saved and spend a glorious eternity with Him (1 Timothy 2:4). Throughout the Bible we are taught to have faith in God and trust in His promises. Hebrews 11:6 is only one Scripture that tells of the security we’ll fi nd in trusting God. There are many more. Then why is it so hard for people to trust in the Creator of the universe and the Saviour of the world? We easily have faith in things of this crooked and perverse world. When we open a can of coffee, we trust what the manufacturer’s label says is true and that the can holds coffee and not beans. When we drive up to a fi lling station, we trust that the gas pump holds gasoline and not water. When we turn on an electrical appliance, we trust that the unseen power in the lines will operate that appliance. God has put His promises down in black and white and they are true.
Remember the joke about the little boy that got scared in the night and went into his parents’ bedroom and asked his dad to come and sleep with him. His sleepy father told him to go back to bed and not be afraid and to remember that God was watching over him. To which the frightened boy retorted, “But, I want somebody with skin on!” The Bible tells us that God has given each of us a measure of faith. It’s like a muscle, use it and it will grow. Talk to God, read and study His word, hook up with other strong Christians and watch His promises come true in your life. Miracles and God’s blessings happen every day. Watch for them and don’t forget to thank God from whom all good things come!
