Cary Tamil School– NEWSLETTER - Volume 2 -- Number 2 - March 2017 1 Cary Tamil School Cary, North Carolina, USA https://www.carytamilschool.org NEWSLETTER March 2017 Volume: 2 Number: 2 From the Mind of the Principal Mr. Selvan Patchamuthu I am elated with the publication of the second Newsletter for this academic year. The Newsletter helps spreading the news about our Tamil school to reach wider audience. In our first Newsletter, I had mentioned about safety measures. There has been considerable improvement with regards to the safety measures taken at our school. The parents have started to show interest and have cooperated with enforcing the measures that we have implemented. Again I want to stress that the safety of our students is our number one priority and you are an important partner in ensuring the safety of our students. Should a student or parent have a concern about the safety, please share the concern with us. Our student safety begins with each and every one of us learning how to work together to support Tamil education and keeping our community safe. We have had a great year up to now, and I encourage the students to do the best for the rest of the school year. The teachers still have many things to teach and we want each student to work hard and to finish strong. During the second quarter Tamil Mazhai function and several competitions were held. Our school would like to thank the teachers in charge, who worked hard and organized these programs in a very successful and grandeur way. This time the students participation in the competition had increased considerably and the quality of the essays, speech, and Thirukkural recital was astounding. Winners of the competitions showcased their talents on stage during the Tamil Mazhai function and made our school proud. Our school thanks the teachers and parents who worked behind for the success of these students. In addition, we have Elon university undergraduate students and a professor who come to learn Tamil in our school. Their interest and the speed within which they learn Tamil language encourages us. We are doubly elated that our Tamil language will reach other cultures through our effort. Parents, please help your child to develop a routine for their Tamil homework and studies. Please stress the importance of Tamil education in everyday life and demonstrate your partnership with the school in helping your child to learn Tamil academically and socially. Our teachers are looking forward to continuing to work with you to make a difference in your child's Tamil education. Please send us your feedback and opinions about our school to me in order for us to keep our school growing. Contact email: [email protected]Since 2005

Volume: 2 Number: 2
From the Mind of the Principal Mr. Selvan Patchamuthu
I am elated with the publication of the second Newsletter for this
academic year. The Newsletter helps spreading the news about our
Tamil school to reach wider audience.
In our first Newsletter, I had mentioned about safety measures. There
has been considerable improvement with regards to the safety measures
taken at our school. The parents have started to show interest and have cooperated with enforcing the
measures that we have implemented. Again I want to stress that the safety of our students is our
number one priority and you are an important partner in ensuring the safety of our students. Should a
student or parent have a concern about the safety, please share the concern with us. Our student
safety begins with each and every one of us learning how to work together to support Tamil
education and keeping our community safe.
We have had a great year up to now, and I encourage the students to do the best for the rest of the
school year. The teachers still have many things to teach and we want each student to work hard and
to finish strong. During the second quarter Tamil Mazhai function and several competitions were

us. We are doubly elated that our Tamil language will reach other cultures through our effort.

News from Pre School
In this second semester kids learned simple Tamil
letters “ , ப, , ம, , ட” etc, with the help of
practice writing sheets. Using these letters, kids also
learned simple words like பட , ப ட . To bring
interest in kids we taught “Train” and “Monkey”
rhymes using the toys. Kids also learned 1 to 20 in
Tamil by adding beads in the strings. The kids were
given coloring sheets as homework. Kids
enthusiastically completed these homework.

News from Grade 1
In second term, we concentrated on the eighteen
“Mei Elluthukkal”. Students were taught to write in
the correct order and to identify them. Every week,
three new letters were taught and homework was
given to practice the letters in the exercise book. In
addition, we revised “Uyir elluthukkal” that was done
in Term 1.
We give more importance to spoken Tamil in this
level. They were taught by showing pictures of “Mei
Elluthukkal”, vehicles’ names, vegetables, birds,
reptiles, insects, colors and shapes. Pictures from the
textbooks were pointed out and kids were made to
repeat them multiple times.
To encourage free thinking, students were asked to
prepare and say five sentences on their favorite topic.
Our aim is to make them more comfortable with
spoken Tamil and to grow to their next level
irrespective of their current level. Students were
taught two songs in this term. In class, we encourage
kids to talk in Tamil by asking questions and talk
about day to day life. They interact well and love
talking.
