4.1 Software Installation

1. InserttheSimpleLogger®CDintoyourCD-ROMdrive.If auto-run isenabled, theSetupprogramwill start automatically. Ifauto-runisnotenabled,selectRunfromtheStartmenuandtypeinD:\SETUP (ifyourCD-ROMdrive isdriveD. If this isnot thecase,substitutetheappropriatedriveletter).

3. Toinstallthesoftware,selectSimple Logger Software SetupinthetopsectionoftheSet-upwindow,thenselectSimple Logger,Version 6.xxintheOptionssection.

4. ClicktheInstallbuttonandfollowtheon-screenpromptstoinstallthesoftware.

4.2 Recording Data• Connectthecurrentprobetotheloggerandpositiontheprobearound

the conductor to be measured. Make sure that the jaws are firmlyclosedbeforebeginningtherecordingsession.(Probeoutputcannotbemorethan1VACforModelL100and1AACfortheModelL110).

• PressthePRESSbuttononthefrontoftheloggertobegintherecord-ing session. The indicator light will double-blink to indicate that therecordingsessionhasstarted.

• Whentherecordingsessionhasbeencompleted,pressthePRESSbuttontoendtherecording.Theindicatorlightwillsingle-blinktoindi-catetherecordingsessionhasendedandtheloggerisinStand-by.

• Unclamptheprobefromtheconductorandconnecttheloggertothecomputerfordatadownloading.SeetheUserGuideontheCD-ROMfordownloadinginstructions.

4.3 Using the SoftwareLaunchthesoftwareandconnecttheRS-232cablefromyourcomputertothelogger.

NOTE:Thefirst time theprogram is launchedyouwillneed toselectalanguage.

SelectPortfromthemenubarandselecttheCOMport(COM1,23or4)youwillbeusing(seeyourcomputermanual).Oncethesoftwareautomati-callydetectsthebaudrate,theloggerwillcommunicatewiththecomputer.(IDnumberoftheloggerandnumberofpointsrecordeddisplayed).

SelectFunction,thenSimpleLogger®L100orL110tochooseyourproberatio.Selectdownloadtodisplaythegraph(downloadtakesabout90sec-onds).

4.3.1 FunctionCommand

TheFunction commandallowsyou toselect theprobeor ratio for therecordeddata.

WhenyouclickonFunction,apull-downwindowwillappearwithallthechoices supported by the version of software you have installed. ThismenuwillonlyappearifaSimpleLogger®isconnectedtotheCOMport.

Simplyclickonthedesiredgroupandthenselecttheproperunitsfromthewindowthatopens.YouwillbereturnedtothemainscreenandthegraphYaxisscalewillberecalculatedusingthechoiceyoumadehere.

Futuredownloadswilluse theunitsselectedhere forgraphingaswell.TheSimple Logger® communicates to the software its basic configura-tion.Therefore,youwillonlybeofferedchoicesthatarecompatibletothelogger.

CHAPTER 5

MAINTENANCE

5.1 Battery InstallationUndernormalconditions,thebatterywill lastuptoayearofcontinuousrecordingunlesstheloggerisrestartedveryfrequently.IntheOFFmode,theloggerputsalmostnoloadonthebattery.UsetheOFFmodewhentheloggerisnotinuse.Replacethebatteryonceayearinnormaluse.Iftheloggerwillbeusedattemperaturesbelow32°F(0°C)orisfrequentlyturnedonandoff,replacethebatteryeverysixtoninemonths.

1. Makesureyourloggeristurnedoff(noblinkinglight)andallinputsaredisconnected.

2. Turntheloggerupsidedown.RemovethefourPhillipsheadscrewsfromthebaseplate,thentakeoffthebaseplate.

3. Locatethetwo-wire(red/black)batteryconnectorandattachthe9Vbatteryto it.Makesurethatyouobservepolaritybyliningupthebatterypoststotheproperterminalsontheconnector.

4. Oncetheconnectorispluggedontothebattery,insertthebatteryintotheholdingcliponthecircuitboard.

5. Iftheunitisnotinrecordmodeafterinstallingthenewbattery,dis-connectitandpressthebuttontwicethenreinstallthebattery.

6. ReattachthebaseplateusingthefourscrewsremovedinStep2.

Yourloggerisnowrecording(LEDblinking).PressthePRESSbuttonforfivesecondstostoptheinstrument.

NOTE: For long-termstorage, remove thebattery topreventdis-chargeeffects.

5.2 CleaningThe body of the logger should be cleanedwith a clothmoistenedwithsoapywater.Rinsewithaclothmoistenedwithcleanwater.Donotusesolvent.

Importing .TXT Files into a Spreadsheet

OpeningaSimpleLogger.TXTfileinExcel

ThefollowingexampleusedwithExcelVer.7.0orhigher.

1. After opening theExcel program, select “File” from the mainmenuandthenselect“Open”.

2. In the dialog box that appears, browse and open the folderwhere your logger .TXT files are stored.Thiswill be locatedinC:\Program Files\Simple Logger 6.xx ifyouacceptedthedefaultchoiceofferedbytheloggerinstallationprogram.

3. Next,changethefiletypeto“Text Files”inthefieldlabeledFilesofType.Allthe.TXTfilesintheloggerdirectoryshouldnowbevisible.

4. Double-clickonthedesiredfiletoopentheTextImportWizard.

5. Reviewtheselectionsinthefirstwizardscreenandmakesurethatthefollowingchoicesareselected:

OriginalDataType: DelimitedStartImportatRow: 1FileOrigin: Windows(ANSI)

6. Clickthe“NEXT”buttonatthebottomoftheWizarddialogbox.Thesecondwizardscreenwillappear.

7. Clickon“Comma” intheDelimitersbox.Acheckmarkshouldappear.

8. Clickthe“NEXT” buttonatthebottomoftheWizarddialogbox.Thethirdwizardscreenwillappear.

9. Aviewoftheactualdatatobeimportedshouldappearinthelowersectionofthewindow.Column1shouldbehighlighted.IntheColumnDataFormatwindow,select“Date”.

10. Next,clickon“Finish”tocompletetheprocessandimportthedata.

11. Thedatawillnowappearinyourspreadsheetintwocolumns(AandB)andwilllooksimilartothatshowninFigureA-1.

TheSimpleLogger®ModelL100/L110iswarrantedtotheownerforaperiodof two years from the date of original purchase against defects in manu-facture. This limited warranty is given byAEMC® Instruments, not by thedistributorfromwhomitwaspurchased.Thiswarrantyisvoidiftheunithasbeentamperedwith, abused or if the defect is related to service not per-formedbyAEMC®Instruments.
