Good morning! Do you have your travel mug?

Tip #1. Use a travel mug in your car for your morning coffee, and a reusable cup or container for water. If you brew your coffee at home you'll save several hundred dollars a year!

Tip #2. Buy more organic food and local in season produce.Look for local producers and farm markets, you'll save money purchasing from the grower. Since the produce isn't transported far it will reduce fuel emissions and pollution.  Buy grass fed organic beef and support humane farming practices.

Tip # 4. Switch to natural, non-toxic cleaning products.

Products that work, but don't create fumes or leave behind residue that may affect the health of your family or impact the environment.

Green cleaning products are items that use renewable, non-toxic, phosphate-free and biodegradable ingredients.  Did you know? Indoor air pollution in our homes can exceed out door air pollution and is thought to be a major cause of breathing problems and respiratory illness in both children and adults.

Tip # 5. Hang more laundry on the line!Wash only full loads in the washing machine. Wash delicate items by hand instead of using a small load. Line dry laundry to save energy and money. Use cold water to launder clothes. If they don't seem to get as clean, it may be because the deter- gent isn't dissolving well.      Use a brand like Watkins which is designed for cold water washing.

Tip # 7. Use natural skin and body care products, especially on your children.

Up to 60 % of the products you put on your skin are absorbed and eventually reach the bloodstream. Most traditional beauty products contain chemicals that are not only toxic to humans, many are also carcinogens.

Tip # 8. Be power smart and save money on your electric bill.

Consume less energy in your home by turning off lights and switching to florescent light bulbs.  Lower your heating thermostat and raise your air conditioner's termostat.  Unplug electronics when not in use. Your computer, TV, CD player, etc use energy even when they're turned off if they're plugged in.

Tip # 9. Drive the speed limit. Slowing down can save you 30% or more on fuel when highway driving. To avoid a heavy foot set your cruise control at the posted highway speed limit. When you are driving in the city try to avoid excessing idling. Speeding, rapid acceleration and then hitting the brakes wastes gas and money.

Tip # 10. Use reusable shopping bags

First, simply save your plastic shopping bags, take them back                         to the store and reuse them the next time you go                         shopping.                               Better yet, you probably already have some                                 reusable cloth bags that would be suitable, why                         not use them?  Place your reusable bags by the door or in your vehicle so you don't forget to take them with you the next time you need to do some shopping. Think about how often your family shops each month. This small habit will literally save hundreds of plastic shopping bags per person annually from going in to our landfills.
