Contact Person - Jeff Sweet, SKC Canoe Clinic Instructor - [email protected], (614)889-3333 Simon Kenton Council Canoe and Kayak Clinics 2019 Canoe Kayak Trek • Earn the Canoeing Merit Badge. • Work with highly experienced and ACA-certified instructors. • Learn small craft water safety and the basic maneuvering skills to navigate flat water effectively. • Be prepared for Scouts to get wet as they learn to self rescue and rescue others. • Canoes, life jackets and paddles are provided but you can bring your own USCG life jacket if you prefer. • Prerequisite: 1st class swim test. • Earn the Kayaking Merit Badge • Learn the basics of water safety and kayak paddling • Scouts will spend time on flat water, practicing the skills for safe navigation. • Be prepared for Scouts to get wet as they learn to self rescue and rescue others. • Kayaks, life jackets and paddles are provided but you can bring your own USCG life jacket if you prefer. • Prerequisite: 1st class swim test. • Experience a full weekend designed to simulate a Northern Tier style canoe trek and build endurance while honing their paddling skills. • Practice wilderness camping, cooking, logistics and portaging. • Use gear designed to match what the outfitter would typically provide. • Canoes, life jackets, paddles and trek outfitter camping gear are provided. • Prerequisities: SKC Canoe clinic or Canoeing Merit Badge, and 1st Class swim test.
