1 Installation overview and requirementsThis chapter provides an
overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process,
and itidentifies the system requirements for a Windows CMS, a
managed system, and a network client.
First time install process overviewPerform these steps for a
first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your CMS:1.
Install and configure the Central Management Server. See Installing
HP Systems Insight
Manager on the CMS for the first time (page 23) for more
details.2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your
environment. For the recommended tasks,
see Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager using the First Time
Wizard (page 36) orConfiguring Systems Insight Manager using the
Options menu (page 38).
3. Install and configure the required Insight Management Agent
on the systems that will bemanaged by the Central Management
Server. This step is covered in the first section of Settingup and
configuring managed systems (page 40).
4. Configure the remaining protocols for the managed systems.
For details, see Setting up andconfiguring managed systems (page
40).

Pre-requisitesTo successfully install and configure HP Systems
Insight Manager on windows, install the followingon the CMS:

Support for Adobe Flash playerHP recommends that the version of
Adobe Flash player must at least be 10.3.138.16. This is apatched
version of Adobe Flash player 10. Use the link

The Central Management Server supports Microsoft Windows 2003
International Server -French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean,
Chinese, and Japanese (latest service pack availablefor each
language).

Minimum: 1.5-GHz processor with 4 GB RAM (for x86)/ 4 GBRAM (for
x64)
1 GB free disk space recommended
Recommended: 2.4-GHz processor with 6GB RAM ( for x86) / 6 GB
RAM (for x64)
NOTE: The ProLiant ML/DL 100 series servers do not support HP
Insight Remote SupportAdvanced. If you are using HP Insight Remote
Support Advanced, you must use a ProLiant300, 500, 700, or Blade
Server.
NOTE: If Microsoft SQL Server is installed on the CMS, an
additional 512 MB of RAMshould be installed.
NOTE: HP Netserver platforms can be used for the Central
Management Server as long asthe Instant Toptools software is not
installed and all other requirements are met.

NOTE: Oracle 10g and 11g use the same JDBC driver version
10.2.0.4.You must install the Oracle JDBC driver, version 10.2.0.4.
You can download this driver fromthe Oracle website at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html.All
Oracle Database Versions list the JDBC driver as ojdbc14.jar. You
must select the correctfile under the Oracle Database 10g Release 2
(10.2.0.4) JDBC Drivers section.Even though the files are listed as
ojdbc.jar, some Oracle depot sites convert it to a .zipextension
during the download. This ensures that the file attributes are not
changed when youftp the files to CMS, through an HPUX or Linux
System. After the file is on the CMS, youmust change the extension
from .zip to .jar.The Oracle database must be created with Unicode
character set of AL32UTF8 and nationalcharacter set of AL16UTF16
before installing HP SIM. The NLS Length must be set to BYTE.You
must also specify the thin client .jar file location. HP SIM
requires Oracle database andTransparent Network Substrate (TNS)
listener services to be up and running when system isrestarted.
Oracle by itself does not start the Oracle database and TNS
listener automatically.An Oracle database administrator (DBA) must
set these services to be restarted when theserver is reset. See the
Oracle documentation for details on how to auto start these
servicesat

Accessto this link requires registration. The Oracle DBA who
manages the Oracle installation mustperform this task.

IMPORTANT: The Windows server must have at least one partition
formatted for the NT FileSystem (NTFS) on which the HP SIM server
software is to be installed. NTFS provides the abilityto restrict
file access based on user accounts and groups. Without NTFS, the
CMS cannot beadequately secured against unauthorized access, and
potentially sensitive operations and datacould be made available to
unauthorized users.
Systems Insight Manager Windows Virtual Machine supportYou can
run HP SIM on a Windows Virtual Machine (VM) provided the following
requirementsare met:
The VM must be hosted on an ESX 3.5 update 5 or later server
The VM configuration must meet HP SIM hardware requirements and
the CPU and Memoryresources allocated to this VM must be always
available to this VM (by reserving CPU andMemory resources).

HP Integrity VMs do not support running an application at the
same level as the host.
The required Windows service packs must be installed for each of
these operating systems.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is only supported if HP SIM is running
on Windows Server 2003.HP SIM 6.2 installs on SQL Express 2005 SP3
and HP SIM 7.1 installs successfully on SQLExpress 2008 R2. During
an upgrade from HP SIM 6.2 to HP SIM 7.1, the installer displaysthe
following message: SQL Express 2005 SP3 detected and now upgrading
it to SQL Express2008 R2.

SSH requirementsSSH is locally configured during HP SIM local
installation on the CMS.Custom tools on the Tools menu require SSH
on the CMS to run properly. These commands run onthe CMS with
environment variables set to the context of specific events or
devices. SSH on theCMS is also used by the Initial ProLiant Support
Pack Install on the DeployDeploy Drivers,Firmware and Agents
menu.You can install and configure SSH on each of the managed
systems and have HP SIM exchangekeys with the managed systems
(through the mxagentconfig command or for Windows, throughthe
Install OpenSSH task). If you do this, then the Command Line Tools
option on the Tools menuworks for these managed systems. If you
choose not to configure it to work with remote SSH clients,then
these commands fail. If SSH is not configured on the client, then
command line tools, any HPSIM plugins that require SSH, and
Configure or Repair Agents do not work properly.PSP and SSH
deployments occur in parallel and the number of nodes to which this
happens inparallel is controlled by PSPandSSHParallelDeployments in
globalsettings.props.If the credentials are incorrect for any node,
then the deployment fails on all remaining nodes.
Foreign language supportJapanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese,
and Traditional Chinese are supported on all platforms aslisted in
System requirements (page 5). French, German, Italian, Spanish are
supported onWindows systems only.

2 Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for thefirst
time
Preparing the systemThese steps are for a clean installation of
Systems Insight Manager on your Windows system. If aprevious
version of HP Systems Insight Manager is installed on your system
and you want to upgradeyour data, see Upgrading HP Systems Insight
Manager.This procedure verifies that your system meets the minimum
requirements and prepares your systemfor installation.1. Install
and configure the CMS. The procedure to complete this step is in
this chapter.2. Configure Systems Insight Manager for your
environment. See Configuring HP Systems Insight
Manager (page 36).3. Install and configure the required Insight
Management Agent on the systems that are to be
managed by the CMS. This step is covered in the first section of
Setting up and configuringmanaged systems (page 40).
4. Configure the remaining protocols for the managed systems.
See Setting up and configuringmanaged systems (page 40).
NOTE: Installing the CMS on Windows uses the user desktop locale
to determine the CMS locale.For example, if you install the CMS on
a German Windows system and the user desktop localehappens to be
English, then the CMS installed becomes an English CMS.The language
of mxlog.txt (a log file) currently depends on the CMS locale. If
the installer userdesktop locale is German, mxlog.txt is logged in
German, even though the CMS is installedon an English Windows
system and the browser locale is also English.This happens because
the Log On As property of the HP SIM service is configured as the
installuser name, instead of Local System, which specifies system
environment. Running the service withthe credentials of the user
that installed the application is necessary for the service to have
thenecessary credentials for database access and other CMS
settings.If you want the logs to be in a different language (German
or English), you have three options:
Stop HP SIM service. Change the default locale of the user
account specified in the Log OnAs property of the HP SIM service
(the user that performed the install) to the desired language,and
restart the service.
Stop HP SIM service. Change the Log On As user for the HP SIM
service to the localadministrator account, and be sure its locale
is set to the desired language. Restart the service.
If you do not want to change the default locale of either of the
previous accounts to the desiredlanguage for the logs, create a new
administrator-level account with the desired default locale.Then
uninstall HP SIM and reinstall HP SIM specifying the new
administrator-level account.
The password of the CMS, on which HP SIM is going to be
installed must have the following twooptions checked. Otherwise,
the database installation fails.

Procedure 1 Verify and prepare system1. Verify your system meets
the minimum requirements. For details, see System requirements
(page 5).2. Install the required Windows and Microsoft SQL
Server Service Packs.
NOTE: If you are using a remote SQL database, leave the default
as Master to insure thatall necessary databases are created with
correct permissions.
3. Verify your system has at least one partition formatted for
the NTFS file system, on which theSystems Insight Manager server
software is to be installed.If this requirement is not yet met,
create or format an NTFS partition for use by Systems
InsightManager.
4. If you have the unsupported HP Insight Support Enterprise
Edition (ISEE) Windows Clientsoftware A.03.95 or older, installed
on your CMS and you wish to install HP Insight RemoteSupport
Advanced, then you must remove the ISEE client software first. The
two cannot runon the same CMS.To remove ISEE, complete the
following:a. Select StartSettingsControl PanelAdd/Remove
Programs.b. Select HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition Client
from the list of installed programs, and
then click Change/Remove.5. Verify that Microsoft Access Data
Components (MDAC) 2.7 Service Pack 1 or higher is
installed. If you are using Windows XP, navigate to C: \Program
Files\Common Files\System\Ado, and then right-click the icon for
the msado15.dll file. Select Properties, andthen click the Version
tab to display the version number. If the file is not found in this
path,use the Windows search engine to find the file. If you must
download MDAC, see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/, and search
for MDAC Service Pack.
6. Before you proceed with the install, if you are going to
perform a custom install for SystemManagement Homepage see HP
SystemManagement Homepage Installation and Configuration

Typical install - Requires minimal user interaction. For more

Custom install - Enables you to select the components you want
to install and to usenon-default values for each component. For
more information, see Custom install.
Silent install - Requires no user interaction. Administrators
can install Systems InsightManager to target systems using command
line options. For more information, see Silentinstallation.
7. Download the software, or install it from the Management CD
or the HP Insight ManagementDVD.To download the software, see
http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim, and on the upper-left of thepage under
Systems Insight Manager, click Download. The Systems Insight
Manager DownloadPage appears. Under Download Systems Insight
Manager, select Systems InsightManager-Windows. Select the latest
version for a full product install.To install the software from the
Management CD, place the DVD in the DVD-ROM drive. TheDVD has an
autorun feature that launches a license agreement. Agree to the
license agreement,and click the Products tab. Click Install under
Systems Insight Manager to launch the Installer,or click the
Products tab, click Explore DVD, and then run setup.exe located at
\HPSIM\win_ia32\ to launch the Installer.To install the software
from the HP Insight Management DVD, place the DVD in the
DVD-ROMdrive. The DVD has an autorun feature that launches a
license agreement. Agree to the licenseagreement, and click the
Products tab. On the sidebar under Foundation Management
Products,select HP Systems Insight Manager, then click Install
under Systems Insight Manager to launchthe Installer, or click the
Products tab, click Explore DVD, and then run setup.exe locatedat
\HPSIM\win_ia32\ to launch the Installer.
NOTE: The installing account and the Systems Insight Manager
service account, both includedin the local admins group, are the
initial login account.
The Welcome to the Systems Insight Manager Installer window
appears. Systems InsightManager examines this system for supported
versions of SQL Server and Oracle.
NOTE: HP does not recommend running server deployment with
Microsoft Data Engine(MSDE) installed and Systems Insight Manager
with SQL Express on the same server.
NOTE: Click the selection box in the upper-right corner of any
dialog box to view the SystemsInsight Manager Installation and
Configuration Guide, ReadMe or Release Notes.

8. Click Next. The System Inspection window appears. The system
is inspected for a previousversion of Systems Insight Manager and a
local database.
After the system inspection is complete, the Database
Configuration window appears.
26 Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the
first time

NOTE: Systems Insight Manager supports SQL Server and Oracle
databases on Windowsplatforms. This feature enables support for a
local or remote database hosted on an IPV6enabled machine. However
Systems Insight Manager does not support IPV6 addresses. Youmust
enter a hostname in the Host field.
Select from the following database options:
Install and use SQL ExpressThis option provides you the facility
to install and configureSQL Express database which is also bundled
with SIM.
Use SQL/SQL ExpressThis option provides the facility to use
Remote database.
Use OracleThis option provides the facility to use Remote
database.
NOTE: At the time of database configuration, ensure that the
user name and password arenot invalid. If you enter an invalid
password, the SQL 2008 R2 installation fails displayingthe
following message:The specified credentials for the SQL Server
service are not valid.

9. The Select Installation Type window enables you to select
your preferred installation type.
The following installation options are available:
Typical install (page 29) Select this option to install the
included components withminimal user interaction listed under the
Available Components for Install.If a component is listed as not
available for installation on the CMS, then the SystemsInsight
Manager install shell has determined one of the following:
The installation prerequisites for the component have not been
met.
A newer version of the component is currently installed.If the
component that is present on the CMS is an older version than what
is bundled withthe Systems Insight Manager install shell and it
supports an in-place upgrade, it appearsin the component list.
Custom install Select this option to select the individual
components under theAvailable Components for Install and configure
them during installation.

the Service Account Credentials window appears. The Domain and User

fields default to the installing account credentials and these
fields can be edited.

2. Enter the password for this account. Click Next, the Summary
window appears with thecomponents that are to be installed.

3. Click Install to initiate the installation process which
installs all products listed in the SelectedComponents table. The
Status window appears. As each component is being installed, it
statesIn Progress beside the component's name. After the component
has installed, it states InstalledSuccessfully.
4. After all the components are installed, click Next. The
Registration window appears. RegisterSystems Insight Manager or
click Register Later.
NOTE: The Systems Insight Manager Registration window and First
Time Wizard appearwhen a user with full configuration rights logs
in to HP SIM for the first time. Follow the onscreeninstructions to
register HP SIM or click Register Later to register at another
time. If your HPSIM system is not connected to the internet, you
can go to a system that has internet accessand navigate to
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPSIM-LIC
to register and retrieve a code to confirm that it is registered
andto discontinue the registration prompt. The First Time Wizard
configures only the basic settingsof an initial setup for HP SIM.

Installation complete window appears. For afresh install, the

6. The reboot option is presented on this screen. The Yes,
reboot the system now option is selectedby default. Click Finish to
allow the system to reboot. This completes the typical

Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager using the First Time
WizardThe initial setup of HP SIM uses the First Time Wizard to
provide step-by-step instructions forperforming the initial
configuration of HP SIM CMS as well as steps for setting up managed
systems,configuring discovery, configuring event handling, adding
users, and defining authorizations. Toperform the initial setup,
you must complete the installation of your CMS as described in
InstallingHP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time
(page 23).The First Time Wizard is automatically launched the first
time a user with administrative privilegessigns in to HP SIM. The
administrative account used to install HP SIM is the initial
administrativeaccount. If the wizard is canceled before completion,
it restarts each time an administrative usersigns in. You can
cancel and disable the wizard from starting automatically by
selecting the Donot automatically show this wizard again checkbox
and clicking Cancel. You can start the wizardmanually by selecting
OptionsFirst Time Wizard.The First Time Wizard helps you configure
settings on the CMS. After configuring a setting, clickNext to
continue the First Time Wizard setup procedure. The First Time
Wizard does not applyany changes until you click Finish on the
Summary page.
NOTE: The default settings in Firefox block the First Time
Wizard. You must disable the pop-upblocker in Firefox to see the
First Time Wizard.
The following is an overview of the First Time Wizard
configuration screens:
IntroductionDescribes the purpose of the First Time Wizard. You
can cancel the First Time Wizard anddisable the wizard from
automatically starting when an administrative user signs in.
Managed EnvironmentSpecifies all operating systems managed by
the CMS. The selections made here configure HPSystems Insight
Manager to show collections, tools, and reports only for managed
environmentsthat are selected.This page also displays required
details for each Tools Definition (TDEF) selection, such as
IPaddress of the Ignite server, sign in credential information, and
so on.
System Automatic DiscoveryEnables discovery, sets up the
discovery schedule, and enters the IP address ranges or hostnames
of the systems you want to discover. Discovery is the process HP
SIM uses to find andidentify systems on your network and populate
the database with that information. A systemmust be discovered to
collect data and track system health status.

Credentials: System Automatic DiscoverySets the sign-in
credentials and the SNMP credentials for the Discovery task.

against the managed systems. A user with no toolboxauthorizations
on a system cannot view or manage that system.Authorizations are
additive. If a user is authorized on Toolbox1 on a system and is
alsoauthorized for Toolbox2 on the same system, the user is
authorized for all tools in both Toolbox1and Toolbox2 on that
system. Similarly, a user authorized for the All Tools toolbox

Association(SNIA) standard that enables interoperable management
for storage networks and storage devices.HP Systems Insight Manager
uses this standard to discover and manage the storage systems
itsupports.You must have a storage system's WBEM SMI-S provider
installed and configured on a managednode for HP Systems Insight
Manager to discover SAN storage. This includes storage devices
suchas Fibre Channel disk arrays, switches, tape libraries, or
hosts (with Fibre Channel host busadapters.)See the HP Systems

Installing SMI-S providersEach storage vendor provides the SMI-S

menu.To configure SNMP on the ProLiant Gen8 server, complete the

5 Installing HP Integrated Remote SupportThe HP Insight Remote
Support software is integrated with HP Systems Insight Manager and
providescomprehensive remote monitoring, notification/advisories,
dispatch and proactive service supportfor nearly all HP servers,
storage, network and SAN environments. HP Insight Remote Support
istargeted to larger networks, data centers, and mission critical
or business critical support levels. Italso enables HP to deliver
higher levels of proactive support in line with HP Mission Critical
Servicessupport agreements. The HP contract and warranty
entitlement feature of HP Systems InsightManager requires this
software plug-in to be installed. After the HP Systems Insight
Managerinstallation is complete, users can install and configure
Insight RS by downloading it from

Remote Support is divided into two versions; IRS v7.0 and IRS
v7.0.5.IRS 7.0 Supports OAs and Generation8 servers only while IRS
7.0.5 supports Mission CriticalLegacy devices along with gen8
servers and OAs. HP IRS 7.0.5 alone supports upgrade fromlower
versions of RSA.
Device and access requirementsHP Insight Remote Support is
supported only on ProLiant servers, which run supported versions
ofWindows. See the Insight Remote Support Release Notes for the
most current supported versions.The Remote Support Software Manager
communicates over HTTPS/443. Likewise, the InsightRemote Support
Client component also communicates over HTTPS/443 to submit
incidents to andretrieve entitlement information from the HP
Support Center. HTTPS provides encryption forconfidentiality of
software configuration data collected from the CMS and transferred
to HP. It isadvisable to configure the firewall for both the
Insight Remote Support Client and the RemoteSupport Software
Manager before installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced. If
your policiesrequire IP addresses, please see HP Insight Remote
Support Advanced and Remote Device AccessSecurity Overview

HP Insight Remote Support installation processTo complete the
installation of the Remote Support Software Manager, follow these
steps:
IMPORTANT: A screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 is
necessary during the HP InsightRemote Support Advanced
installation, otherwise some install windows will be truncated
andnecessary user input buttons will not be visible.
Insight RS 7.0 is integrated with HP SIM 7.1. Follow the steps
from 3f to install and configureInsight RS.1. Reset the Virtual
Machine.
If not, and you have a previous install of an I-RS kit,
uninstall the kit and then manually deletethe following
folders:
Program Data HP/RS folder and all subfolders
Program Files (x86) HP/RS folder and all subfolders
Program Files HP/RS folder and all subfolders
2. Select View and choose the option Show hidden files, folders,
and drives. This will ensure thatyou can view hidden folders under
the 'Folder and Search options'.

up and to try again later. You may need to force a refresh on the
UI or bring up anew browser window to avoid browser cache.
5. Go to https://:7906 and configure the hosting device.
NOTE: You can launch Insight RS by double clicking on the
desktop shortcut created aftersuccessful installation of Insight
RS. You can also launch Insight RS only from the CMS console.
6. Authenticate with an administrator-enabled OS account.7. From
the first page, select the Host Device Setup Wizard8. On the
Welcome page, click NEXT9. On the Check Connectivity page, click
Test Connection (dont enter a proxy). The connection
status must display as Connected. Select NEXT
NOTE:If the Insight RS system is in the HP network, then you
need not provide proxy details. If not,you must enter the proxy
details to establish connection to HP network.
10. On the Contact Information page, enter the required
attributes for the Company name andcontact. After you have entered
all the required settings, select NEXT.
11. On the Site Information page, enter the required attributes
and select NEXT.12. On the Register Host Device page, select
REGISTER WITH HP.
NOTE: This step takes up to 60 seconds to change the status to
'Registered'.
13. After the registration is complete, select Validate HP
Passport Details and enter the HP passportuser credentials.
14. Select Register with HPSC and wait for a few minutes for the
registration to complete.15. Select Next.16. On the Service
Providers page, select Hewlett-Packard for the service provider.17.
Click Finish.
HP Insight Remote Support and HP Systems Insight
ManagerSynchronization
HP Insight Remote Support 7.x offers the ability to synchronize
data from HP Systems InsightManager (HP SIM) 7.0 or higher version.
This is enabled by configuring HP SIM adapter underthe
Administrator SettingsIntegration Adapter.
NOTE: This support is available only if HP SIM is installed on
the same Hosting Device.
If HP SIM is installed on the Hosting Device before installing

6 Upgrading HP Systems Insight ManagerThis chapter provides the
steps to upgrade HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.1 and later.
Beforebeginning the HP Systems Insight Manager upgrade, verify that
your user name and password toaccess the database are valid. When
you perform an upgrade, HP Systems Insight Manager checksfor a
previous installation of HP Systems Insight Manager, stops HP
Systems Insight Manager andall related services and daemons,
overwrites or copies files to the appropriate locations on theCMS,
and then restarts HP Systems Insight Manager and all related
services.
NOTE: If your current version of HP Systems Insight Manager is
before the 6.x version, then youmust first upgrade to 6.x or a
later version before upgrading to version 6.3 and above. For

Procedure 8 Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager1. Verify that
HP Systems Insight Manager 6.x or greater is running on the
system.2. If you have the unsupported HP Insight Support Enterprise
Edition (ISEE) Windows Client
software A.03.95 or older, installed on your CMS and you wish to
install HP Insight RemoteSupport Advanced, then you must remove the
ISEE client software first. The two cannot runon the same CMS.To
remove ISEE complete the following steps:a. Select
StartSettingsPanel Add/Remove Programs.b. Select HP Instant Support
Enterprise Edition Client from the list of installed programs,
and
then click Change/Remove.3. If you are using an Oracle database,
then before upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager,
do the following:a. Stop HP Systems Insight Manager.b. Search
for a file named ojdbc14.jar in the [installdir]/lib and
[installdir
