Makers fest8 Sep - 9 Oct 2015

Special Exhibition: #My Singapore - Ours to Create This exhibition covered aspects of Singapore’s Past, Present and Future through the photo essays past and present as well as sounds and songs of different decades. Special goodie bags were given away to visitors who participated in the activity. It is a collaboration effort with Singapore Discovery Centre.

Dare to Dream - a book talk by Dr Low Lee YongOur students learned how Dr Low stayed ahead of the competition in the healthcare industry, using technology and data analytics to transform and simplify healthcare system. Find out more about Dr Low and his works.

Becoming a Life Champion - a book talk by Sean WongFrom setback to comeback, Sean Wong shared his entrepreneurial journey who once lost all his investments due to hostile market changes. He is now an accomplished producer, singer-songwriter, and life coach. Find out more about Sean and his works.

Three days fringe activity booths

This month-long festival was launched with the special exhibition titled #My Singapore - Ours to Create (see report previous page), followed by three days mini activity booths featuring e-Info Roadshow and many interesting exhibitors from Singapore Makers Association.

Grand Draw for Three Lucky Winners! Throughout the festival, Makers Fest Passport (above) were given out and students had to collect as many stamps as possible. At the closing ceremony, we held a Grand Draw for three lucky winners! Congratulations to all the winners!

Left: Benjamin Theng is the Top Scorer of Apple Gaming. He won an iPod Touch 16 GB worth $278.

Cliff Han Zong Xian won Top Grand Draw Prize, an iPad Mini 16GB WIFI worth $398.

Get the most out of library (that aren’t just books)

It is never too late to start using the school library and the online services that it offers. To help you get the most out of SIM Library, here are five facts that you must know so that you can study smart and save a lot of time.

Borrowing books using your SIM or UniSIM Student Card. You can borrow to a maximum of 6 books. There are three Self-Check machines for you to check-out the books.

Extend the due date of your borrowed books via My Library Account. You can do a maximum of 2 renewals if there are no prior reservations.

Reserve books when they are out on loan. You can click on Request Option to join the queue.

Bookings of library facilities such as Bloomberg Terminal, Gaming Room, Group Study Room and Notebook from Xpress Collect.

Borrowing of electronic devices such as Notebook, iPad and Camcorder.

Xpress Collect: Pick up at your convenience

Xpress Collect is a new service from the SIM Library. It is now available to use at your convenience.

Located at the heart of SIM HQ – Student Hub (Block B Level 1), you can collect your reserved items by scanning your NRIC card and the designated locker will automatically open.

Services available at Xpress Collect include:

» Pick up reserved books during or after library operating hours

» Loan notebooks if you have made advanced booking from the library booking system

Extended Library Hours 2016

Need a conducive place to study till late? Need to prepare ahead for the upcoming exams?

Tay Eng Soon Library will open for extended hours to let you prepare for your examinations.

Do take note that borrowing, photocopying & printing will not be available after 8.45pm (weekdays) and 5.15pm (Saturdays).

FROM 7 MARCH TO 27 MAY 2016

e-Resources: responsible use of library resources

The usage of Library-subscribed electronic resources is determined by licence agreements between SIM Library and the publishers/vendors. To protect copyrighted resources, a warning system is in place to advise you when your downloading activities could potentially violates the licence agreements. This will result in account suspension that ultimately affects the entire SIM community. Here are some tips to reduce excessive downloading of subscribed e-Resources:

1. Avoid downloading the entire e-book or entire issues of an e-journal

2. Avoid using robots, spiders, or other automated programs to download from our subscribed resources

3. Stop content downloading when you receive warning messages

Let’s be responsible when accessing copyrighted information so that you can continue to enjoy the e-resource access extended to you.
