Kathy met her husband Bill while living in Mt. Sinai and had their first date at the Oktoberfest in Port Jefferson. Kathy was raised in Hicksville along with her 2 sisters and her brother. There she attended St. Ignatius Loyola School and then Our Lady of Mercy Academy. She continued her catholic education at Nazareth College of Rochester. She received her Masters in Special Ed from CW Post and studied Theology at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. Kathy taught at St. William the Abbot in Seaford and St. Philip Neri in Northport, upon her college graduation. She began her career at St. Louis in 1992, where she was responsible for Grades 4- 8-faith formation and sacramental preparation for Confirmation. Kathy was also the director of the Parish Stewardship. In both these capacities Kathy was truly blessed to work with some of the most wonderful and truly faith-filled people. John McNamara and Sr. Margaret were Kathy’s fellow DREs and along with hundreds of workers in the vineyard they were able to help build the beautiful parish community of St. Louis de Montfort. Kathy worked with her outstanding Stewardship Committee, to introduce the Diocesan Stewardship Program to our parish. The committee was able to establish a Financial and Time and Talent Renewals for the Parish. The Ministry Fair was celebrated four times and it continues to improve. The committee was also initiated the Soup Supper and Stations of the Cross program for Lent. Different Ministries were able to contribute soup for the suppers, which would take place after the Stations of the Cross. Small donations are given to support our Parish Outreach, which will forever be given in memory of Jane Guido. Kathy was blessed to have worked with such a wonderful person who was totally dedicated to those in need. Kathy was fortunate to work with such a collaborative parish community. She will always be grateful for the marvelous, loving community of St. Louis de Montfort. Kathy retired in August of 2018 and now gets to spend more time with her husband Bill, her daughter Katie and her husband Jay and her son Michael. Of course, she thoroughly loves and enjoys ore time with her father, Jim, (she calls him “Pop”) and her four wonderful grandsons. Kathy is honored to have been asked to be the co-honoree with John McNamara for the 2019 Parish Golf Outing. This is the single largest fund raiser for the Parish Outreach program and she is asking everyone to support the outing and all of the good that it does for those in need in our community. They have lived in Rocky Point since 1978 and are parishioners at St. Anthony's Parish in Rocky Point. John taught Theology at Maria Regina (now Kellenberg) High School in Uniondale from 1969 to 1980 after having received his BA in Philosophy from Cathedral College in 1968. John received his MA in Theology from St. John's University while teaching at Maria Regina in 1972. In addition to teaching Theology at Maria Regina, John ministered in several parishes: Blessed Sacrament in Valley Stream; St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square; Sacred Heart in North Merrick; and St. Edward's in Syosset. When Kathy and John moved to Rocky Point, John worked at the Selden/Centereach Youth Center and in 1979 was hired as the Youth Minister at St. Mark's Parish where he still works with the teenagers (and also the RCIA Process, the Lectors, moderates the Respect Life Committee, coordinates the Adult Confirmation Process and does Adult Faith Formation classes). In 1980 John was offered the position of Director of Religious Education at St. Louis de Montfort Parish by Msgr. John McGuire, the founding pastor of St. Louis de Montfort Parish. As the Director of Religious Education, John was responsible for the faith formation of 2,000 students in grades Pre School through 12. John worked with the First Holy Communion and Confirmation programs in cooperation with Sr. Margaret Judge, Kathleen Sweeney, Margaret Battillo, Anna Mae Manne, Marylou Pinto, Patricia Noto, and Janet Oliveri and 2,500 volunteer teachers during the 38 years----all of whom were outstanding and extremely dedicated to spreading the Good News of Jesus. John was also responsible for the Youth Ministry Program, the RCIA Process, the Parish Library, the Library Tea, the Irish Family Celebration, the Adult Faith Formation programs, and the annual Yard Sale to benefit Catholic Relief Services and the Nicaraguan Youth Project. John also developed an intergenerational faith formation program called the Family Program for 200 families who chose to be more immediately involved in the faith formation of their children by attending the classes with their children and Father Abraham. John retired from St. Louis in 2018 and continues to minister at St. Mark's in Shoreham and St. Anthony's in Rocky Point where he is the Adult Faith Formation Coordinator, teaches the VIRTUS Program for child protection, coordinates the Adult Confirmation Process, and runs Parish Retreats with his wife, Kathy, who coordinates the Manna Ministry at St. Anthony's. John enjoyed every second of ministering at St. Louis and is both honored and humbled to be the honoree along with Kathy Sweeney at this year's Golf Outing. John had the pleasure of working with Kathy Sweeney for over 25 years at St. Louis. The parish is a special one and John thanks each person for their support, kindness, and love. THANK YOU!!!
