Judging by the popularity of the character and series “Columbo” starring the late Peter Falk, I’m certainly not in the minor- ity. Sherlock Holmes was one of my favorite sleuths. I wonder how he would have ap- proached solving the enigmas that cur- rently perplex our global financial lead- ers. One of the most memorable of the Sherlock Holmes short stories was “Silver Blaze”, a tale about the disappear- ance of a race horse. The most important clue in solving the mystery came not from the obvious clues, including the events leading up to the crime, but from a dog that did not bark.
