Silesia: it is a region which is located along upper and middle

Oder river, upper Vistula river and along the Sudetes, Carpathian mountain range. However, the

biggest cities of Silesia are Wrocław and Katowice. Modern Silesia is inhabited mostly by Poles and

Silesians, but also by minorities of Germans, Czechs and Moravians.

Silesia can be divided into two parts:

- Upper Silesia (its capital: Katowice) and

- Lower Silesia (its capital: Wrocław).

Silesia also has its own languge, which is called: Silesian’s language and it has a form of some kind of local dialect. This languge is used by older pepople or by people who live in the countries (small

villages).

Silesia is famous for many coal mines. Most men worked in mines few years ago

and it was the main source of their livelihood.

Katowice: it is a city which is situated in Upper Silesia in southern Poland. This city plays the role as a core of Metropolis which means the union

of several cities neighboring around this particular city (like: Sosnowiec, Bytom, Chorzów).

Katowice has been the capital of Upper Silesia since 1999.

Tourism in Katowice 

Katowice's marketplace - is the old center and marketplace of the city. Unfortunately many old buildings were demolished in the 1951 to make place for communist modern buildings. Several streets around the marketplace are closed to traffic and have been made into a shopping

alleys.

Spodek’ as the biggest sport center and concert hall. Its name and its shape come form the name

of UFO flying saucer

A famous roundaboat in Katowice which is extremely huge and difficult to drive for the

begginer drivers. Under the roundaboat there is a long tunnel and a big Arts Gallery which is

located in the middle of the roundaboat.This photo comes from the time when it was rebuilt

Silesia City Centre: it is a huge shop centre where you can find many different shops, you

move there by alleys.
