2. Introduction: The word Cell Phone has become greatest buzzword in Cellular Communication industry. There are lots and lots of technology that tries toreduce the Noise pollution and make theenvironment a better place to live in. Our paper tells about a new technology known asSilent Sound Technology that will put an end toNoise pollution. 3. Need for silentsound..Silent Sound Technology will put an end toembarrassed situation such as- An person answering his silent, but vibrating cellphone in a meeting, lecture or performance, andwhispering loudly, I cant talk to you right now . In the case of an urgent call, apologeticallyrushing out of the room in order to answer or callthe person back. 4. What it is..? It is a technology that helps you to transmit informationwithout using your vocal cords. This technology aims to notice lip movements & transformthem into a computer generated sound that can betransmitted over a phone. Hence person on other end of phone receives theinformation in audio. 5. ORIGIN whispered speech and lip-reading DARPA Advanced Speech Encoding 6. HOW WE SPEAK.? When we generally speak aloud, air passes throughlarynx & the tongue. Words are produced usingarticulator muscle in the mouth & jaw region. 7. . Now imagine a technology that could allow everyone tomake phone calls, and talk, without making a sound..Serene, peaceful & heavenly. Recently, its proved that the articulator muscle become activeirrespective of whether air passes through them or not. Even by saying words without producing sound, weak electriccurrents are sent from your brain to the speech muscle. These electrical signals are known asELECTROMYOGRAMS and its study is called asElectromyography. 8. Methods Electromyograpy(EMG) Image Processing 9. ELECTROMYOGRAPHY It is a technique which monitors tiny muscularmovements and pulses generated by it . Thetransducers involved converts the pulses into electricsignals . Electromyographic sensors attached to the face recordsthe electric signals produced by the facial muscles,compare them with pre recorded signal pattern of spokenwords . 10. . 11. . When there is a match that sound is transmitted onto the other end of the line and person at the otherend listen to the spoken words 12. . The Silent Sound Technology useselectromyography, monitoring tiny muscularmovements that occur when we speak. Monitored signals are converted into electricalpulses that can then be turned into speech,without a sound uttered. Electromyography (EMG) is a technique forevaluating and recording the electrical activityproduced by skeletal muscles. An electromyography detects the electricalpotential generated by muscle cells, when thesecells are electrically or neurologically activated. 13. EMG in Activity 14. Working ofElectromyography A needle containing two fine-wired electrodes isinserted through the skin into the muscle tissue. Normal muscles at rest make certain, normalelectrical sounds when the needle is inserted intothem. Then the electrical activity when the muscle isat rest is observed. Each electrode track gives only a very local picture ofthe activity of the whole muscle. Because skeletalmuscles differ in the inner structure, the electrode hasto be placed at various locations to obtain an accuratesignal. Thus by this way the speech can be communicatedwithout sound. 15. Surface electromyography(sEMG) based speech recognitionSurface ElectroMyoGraphy (sEMG) is the process ofrecording electrical muscle activity captured by surface(i.e., non-implanted) electrodes. When a muscle fiber isactivated by the central nervous system, small electricalcurrents in the form of ion flows are generated. Theseelectrical currents move through the body tissue, whoseresistance creates potential differences which can bemeasured between different regions on the body surface 16. Image Processing Image processing is any form of signal processingfor which the input is an image, such as aphotograph or video frame; the output of imageprocessing may be either an image or a set ofcharacteristics or parameters related to theimage.In the silent sound technology the output ofthis image processing is an audio record. 18. According to research, these 'lost calls' areworth $20 billion per year worldwide. For the cellularoperator, these are potential earnings that are currentlybeing left on the table. When these 'lost calls' becomeanswerable, and can be conducted without making asound, there is a tremendous potential for increasedprofits." Now the research is going on technology that canbe used in Office Environment too. 25. APPLICATION By astronauts. We can make silent calls even if we are standing in acrowded place. People without vocal cord or those who are suffering fromAphasia (speaking disorder ). Telling a trusted friend your PIN number Silent Sound Techniques is applied in Military Since the electrical signals are universal they can betranslated into any language. Native speakers can translateit before sending it to the other side. can be converted intoany languageof( German, English & French) 26. RESTRICTIONS Translation into majority of languages but for languagessuch as Chinese different tone holds different meaning,facial movements being the same. Hence this technology isdifficult to apply in such situations. From security point of view recognising who you aretalking to gets complicated. Even differentiating between people and emotions cannotbe done. This means you will always feel you are talking toa robot. This device presently needs nine leads to be attached to ourface which is quite impractical to make it usable. 27. FUTURE PROSPECTS Silent sound technology gives way to a bright future tospeech recognition technology Without having electrodes hanging all around yourface, these electrodes will be incorporated into cellphones . It may have features like lip reading based on imagerecognition & processing rather thanelectromyography. Also reducing the time taken to process the image indigital image processing 28. CONCLUSION Engineers claim that the device is working with 99percent efficiency. It is difficult to compare SSI technologies directly in ameaningful way. Since many of the systems are stillpreliminary, it would not make sense, With a few abstractions, however, it is possible to shedlight on the range of applicability and the potential forfuture commercialization of the different methods. 29. .
